I expect to spend between $500-1000 and after the last one I said never again. I had to buy two bridesmaid dresses to make one that would fit my pregnant/non-size 2 frame because the bride picked a dress that only went up to a size 10 and alter them to fit because it was "really super important we all match."

I would hope to spend no more than $500 if the wedding was local.
I have been a BM once. Between two showers (and gifts), the wedding gift, the b-party and gift, the dress/shoes/jewelry/hair/nails/makeup (The jewelry, hair, nails and makeup were all optional expenses), I probably spent closer to $800. And luckily it was in my hometown so we could just stay with family.
It is so expensive. H has been a GM probably no less than 7 times. It's always at least 150-200 for the tux rental.
I haven't been asked to be a bridesmaid since I was 19 years old. I guess it depends on the friend and whatnot. I don't know, I think I'd pass on an invitation to be a bridesmaid, to be honest. I'll happily attend the showers and give nice gifts and all, but I'd like to pass on the matchy-matchy dress-up day and all that.
Plus it's basically impossible to NOT LOOK prettier than the bride, amirite?
The weddings I've been in have been low-key and they were when I was in college, so I didn't have to travel. I think I only spent a couple of hundred on them?
If I were asked now, I'd expect to have to spend money on travel, wedding attire, a gift and the shower, if I had a hand in planning the shower. However, I would not spend hundreds of dollars on a shower.
holy crap $1000! I always budgeted like $300 max, including the dress. but 3 of the weddings I've been a bridesmaid for, were family weddings, so my parents bought my dresses. and the last wedding I was in, I was still in college so my budget was LOW.
I spend more on weddings as a guest, than I do as a bridesmaid, apparently.
