I was wondering that too, but wasn't she at Downton when it happened? when the officer asked that last night I was like wait, was she?
Ok so Green died when they had that big church bazaar. And Mary and Anna had gone into London and Mary met with Tony and told him to fire Green. Then he followed her back to Downton and told her that he didn't get a chance to fire Green because he died. So... it's possible that Mary/Anna were in London when Green died. Anna being out of town for the day was what allowed Bates to take the day off without rousing her suspicions beforehand.
I think Baxter really is nice. I think spying for Thomas was making her feel like the nasty person she turned into with that guy who convinced her to steal. She seems much happier now.
I definitely got the slut - shaming vibe from Tony. What do you do when the guy won't allow you to break up with him?
I think the other guy telling Mary she had an "obvious solution" to the Tony problem was referring to Ms. RoseMerton or whatever her name is.
Art guy is probably going to put an overt move on Cora and someone will walk in at that very inconvenient moment.
I don't get the feeling that Tom really even likes the teacher all that much. Everyone else seems to be forcing her on him. I don't know if they all (mostly Rose) think he has a secret crush on her and so they keep forcing them together or what, but he never seems to be eager for her to come to dinner or anything. Even if he finds her politics refreshing I don't think he likes her belittling of his life and the family or her pronounced lack of tact.
Maybe I'm cold, but I didn't think Tony's reaction was that bad considering the times. I mean, a guy is gonna take it pretty hard when a woman basically says you're boring and lousy in the sack. And sleeping together like that was a HUGE breach of protocol. I can't even think of an analogy in today's terms.
If his reaction basically stays where it was - in that moment, I agree with you. Her sleeping with him was basically saying "yes, I'll marry you". Then... she didn't. I get it, I get how pissed he is.
BUT if this actually turns into him basically blackmailing her into marrying him, then he really is an asshole.
Also, unlikely conspiracy theory: Tony killed Green because Mary told him to get rid of Green and he took it to an extreme in a show of devotion to her. Now he won't let her break up with him because he killed a man for her! And that's why the police are staking out his house: Tony is the main suspect, but they think maybe he colluded with someone at Downton.

I agree. you KNEW he loved Sybil. You could just tell. He seems intrigued by Ms. Bunting in a "hey, she's kind of like me" way, but I think her pushing things too far and really being quite rude to her host, isn't endearing her to him.

Or at least so I hope!
Sybil was kind to everyone. She treated the servants (Tom) like real people, and wanted to know about their lives. She was a nurse who showed a lot of compassion. Even Thomas cried when she died. She treated people like equals but not by rubbing the high and mighty's faces in the dirt. She showed that she believed people to be equal by respecting everyone equally, not by disrespecting those that perhaps thought too highly of themselves.
In other words... Sybil and the teacher maybe are both political activists and maybe even shared similar views on how the world was changing but Sybil wasn't throwing dirt on everyone to prove that they were all equally dirty, if that makes any sense. Their methods are very opposite.
I think Blake meant she should tell Tony that she is going to marry Blake. I think it was his coy, somewhat cowardly attempt at a proposal.
Yeah ok I can see that, I've been ruminating on this while I paint lol...and between the fumes and the quiet, I came to that conclusion too.
I wish she'd get together with Blake too...he has a quiet but firm way about him that I think Mary would benefit from. A man who kowtows to her like Tony would eventually bore her...which is maybe what happened on their trip. I think if she had made the same suggestion to Blake, he would have told her, he was sure they were compatible in all ways, but that she'd just have to wait and find out the old fashioned way.
I also think Blake would be an interesting addition to the family and may result in Tom sticking around for good. Having another person who disagrees with the old order of things would be refreshing for Tom. And to have someone who has found a way to act on his convictions without becoming someone everyone detests like Bunting.... I think Tom's been floundering for someone to tutor him on how to walk with one foot in each camp and Blake might just be that guy.
I like your thinking on Blake and Tom. There have been a few moments when Mary seemed to be flirting with Tom, but I don't think that's possible.
Oooh, because she was afraid Bates was going to find out and do the deed for her if she didn't? And since he has a record he'd be gone for good?
Interesting.
Or maybe just did it for herself! She seemed so uncomfortable in London. And the witness hearing "why have you come?" sounds more like he'd be talking to Anna who he could intimidate. I'm sorry it never occurred to me until I saw her in London. I always liked her character and I'd love it if she did it, but only if she gets away with it!
-I agree that Edith was super pathetic creeping around Marigold's family
Right!?! Total pathetic and creeperish. I cannot IMAGINE what its like to be near your own child as they are raised by someone else, but oh my, she is a wet blanket.
I also ADORED the "spoiler alert" video they had in there with the cast discussing the scene where Robert loses his shit at Bunting - Tom's reaction shot @3:32 is awesome, I may have watched it a few times, hilarious!!!

OMG MH and I both laughed so hard when we saw that. (heart)
