This is a very useful thread for my visit in November!
Marie, when are you coming to visit, and will you be in Cbus or Cincy?
Not Marie, but I know its Cinci and the weekend of Nov. 11th b/c she, her H, me, my H, and Copz are going to the Bengals/Giants game...squee! I have promised to be on my best behavior, meaning no tequila at the tailgate. I know you're not a sports person Brookles but you should come party with us!

Fun! You know how I feel about football, but I'd love to meet up with y'all anyway.
Brookles, I'll be there from Saturday to Monday - I'd love to hang out! Maybe Saturday night? When the date gets closer I'll try and put together some plans.
I agree. I grew up in Cleveland and wet to school in Columbus (Ohio State) and I found the areas quite different. Southern Ohio is like a whole other world from NE Ohio.
So how would you guys say cbus and CLE are different? My inlay=ws live in CLE, so I have visited there quite a bit prior to moving to Cbus. I have a very skewed perspective, I am sure, since my in laws are wacky. My MIL lives in the Aurora area and is a horse nut. My SIL lives in Streetsboro and is white trash. My FIL and GMIL live in a CLE city neighborhood that used to be polish/lithuanian and is now just poor and run down.
Thanks for the Budwieser resume offer. I may be PM'ing you in the future.
Southern Ohio just scared me. It touches West Virginia!
Oh dear. I grew up in Streetstucky. I may know your SiL!
Cleveland is very "we are all in this misery together." If you are from Cleveland, there is this bond of shared despair or something. It's hard to describe and really hard for those who move to Cleveland to understand. It's why Cle has a reputation for being unwelcoming to outsiders. It's not that you aren't welcome, just don't expect us to be cheerful.
Cbus is a collection of people who have nothing in common but OSU. Very few people who live in Cbus are born there. Cleveland, meanwhile, is a city young adults leave and return to to raise kids.

I will pm you her name. It is.... Interesting..... To go visit her. She and her H have a lean mowing is optional philosophy. Once their neighbor mowed for them because he thought their mower was broken. Nope. Just too busy doing more important things like smoking and playing video games.
I just am not a big fan of Columbus. For such a big city, I find it really boring. Maybe that's just because I was born and raised in Ohio. Idk.
We live in a very rural part of Ohio and I'm much happier than in the Cbus suburbs. We never have to deal with traffic unless we get stuck behind a tractor or a buggy. It is very scenic. My favorite time is the fall. The owners of Devine Farm are really nice. They have a pumpkin egg hunt around Halloween that is really fun and free. I really like Pigeon Roost too. They are both in Hebron.
It would be nice to shop other than online. Every time I take DD to Cbus to see her specialist up by Polaris I am overwhelmed by all of the dining and shopping options. People in my town are really nice and the crime is really low. I was surprised that we seem to have less issues with race out here than in the Cbus suburbs. Although we are the token multicultural family. The only problems I've had are because I'm heavily involved in local politics. It's not easy speaking as a lone liberal in a very conservative area. I've made a couple of enemies because I've spoke out for the separation of church and state and have "come out" as an atheist. Sigh. But most of them are just praying for my soul at every city council meeting.
Can we please be friends? What town are you in? We are members of the works, so we should definitely go sometime.

Yes, definitely! I will be in town that weekend and up for hangin'. Also, if you need any Cincy recommendations let me know!
I love columbus. My mom grew up there and her whole family still ives in the burbs. The city itself isn't that exciting IMO, but the burbs are beautiful and have a lot going on. It has such a college town feel to it, even though its bigger than that.
Southern Ohio represents, yo. I don't get the OSU/buckeye love, either, and FWIW we Cincinnatians mostly just make fun of people for being insane Buckeye fans (sorry copz ).
Word. And FTR, I grew up in the Nati and PPH it. I'm not impresse with the rest of the state although I do like the city of Cleveland. I could easily leave the rest of the state (again, sorry Copz). I have dreams of moving back to Cincinnati and buying a loft in OTR.
If J hadn't been so set on staying in Columbus, I would have been perfectly happy to stay in the Nati after I finished grad school at UC. I lived on the west side from birth until mid-2nd grade and came back for grad school...thanks to the countless visits to see grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc it felt like I was home again and I loved it. Part of me has my fingers crossed that one day either J or I takes a job down there-Columbus certainly has its benefits and I love it too but it doesn't give me the feeling that Cincinnati does.

I'm an ex-ohioan and I couldn't agree more. I'm in Boston now and people think it's THE shit... I think it's a shit-hole. They really have no idea how nice the midwest is!

Me too! I know we talked abou it a few months ago and I wasn't sure of the dates but it's definite now. Can I suggest drinks? Brooke's can vouch for the fact that I'm not a serial killer.

Word. I feel like the 'Nati is trapped between crazy Buckeye fans and crazy UK fans. Oh well. I love it anyway.
Love Cincy!! I went to school there. But I grew up in northern (central) OH - in Cedar Point land. Let me tell you, there is nothing beautiful or wonderful about growing up in that part of Ohio (unless you lived on the lake, I suppose).
Late to this thread, but I love living in Ohio. I'm actually in NW Ohio, so it is completely flat and pretty much nothing but fields. I love it, but then again I'm a total country mouse. Cities make me depressed because I need open spaces and a lot of green.
And you can't beat the changes of seasons here. Winters and summers are (usually - not this year) mild, but we still get to enjoy a little snow. And fall is so pretty with the leaves.
What I love about my location is that I am a short drive from several larger cities, so if I want some entertainment for my kids I can get to it easily and then escape back to peaceful BFE when I've had my fill.
Have you ever been to Amish country in Ohio? It's gorgeous.
