I'm sorry you're going through this. You're taking the right steps and totally agree with not putting him under sedation. Anything you do or don't do you're going to question. I'd keep him comfortable, and like you said he might have been like this for awhile and this might just be a flare up.

I'm really glad to see this latest update, if only to know you're feeling calmer. The unknown is always the scariest part to me but it sounds like you have a great vet to help you with this. I'm keeping you and Bailey in my thoughts!! ((hugs))
I'm so sorry Tamb. We had to make a similar decision with our husky two years ago, and it broke my heart and almost killed DH but we did it, because there is a point at which the only reason to treat a major issue is to defer your own pain. I actually really hate that vets will outline treatment options when the parents aren't asking and any objective person would say it isn't fair to the animal or necessary. You have been the best mother to him, and I am so, so sorry you have to go through this.
