I have been on a spending binge. I blame the freezing temps trapping me inside with unfettered access to online shopping. I can't wait for all my stuff!!
show me what you've been purchasing. :-)
also, if anyone is looking for a moisturizing lipstick that can be sheered out or built up, the YSL rouge volupte shine is, hands down, the best. I'm hoarding them all.
I've been buying books, throw pillows and clothes for my cruise
I want to start shopping for something to hang on the giant wall in my living room. Hard to find something big enough #bragplaint
when is your cruise? PIP or link the clothes!
the maxi dress above is the first thing I've purchased for my bachelorette weekend in Nashville. I want to buy all the warm weather clothes, but it makes me sad to think of them sitting in my closet for the next three months.
$10 each for the AE scarves, and $60 for the Boden dress - it just arrived so I have to try it on.
ETA: tried it on ... it actually fits and it looks pretty good. Makes me look hippy (not that I'm not hippy already, lol) but I think it'll be nice with a cardigan on top. It's a bit too fancy for work, and there are buttons on the back so I won't be able to wear it without MH's help buttoning it, but it'll be nice for showers or a wedding or a fancy date night. *Definitely* glad I didn't spend the original $198, but for $60 I'm happy.
It was wrapped so nicely. And the receipt included a little card with seeds in it, that I can plant to get wildflowers. So whimsical, those British!
Got some super cute maxi dresses at target the other night when it was all 25% off
I would ask you to PIP the maxis but I know how much target's website sucks. (wilted)
re: audiobooks, I started with a free trial of audible earlier this month and finished Yes Please in less than a week. I have my eye on this one next, but I'm open to recs!
A car. a new showerhead for our bathroom some clothes for DH (he hasn't been able to shop in person for clothes in over two years... he's making up for it) some roving and bobbins for my spinning wheel yarn a few more kitchen basics while we wait on all our stuff to get here
We're taking two big vacations this year, so I'm trying very hard not to buy clothing to keep expenses down. So far I've only failed a little and bought one maxi dress from Target for $25.
ETA: And I now see that farmvillelover got hers for 25% off, so I'll consider it bigger fail.
Nothing! lol. But, I'm trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on a new laptop. I'm getting a tax refund and I'm really torn on whether I should hoard that money or use it to buy something I KNOW I'm going to need sometime in the near future. My laptop has been on the fritz for months, it overheats and shuts down regularly and I can't play even a 2 minute video on it. Earlier today it overheated when I was just doing regular GBCN/web browsing.
How do you know when it's really time to replace it? When it won't turn on at all? The laptop I'm probably going to replace it with is $229.
I'm not really afraid I'm going to go blow my tax refund, but I am afraid I'll piss it away as extra spending money and then won't have it anymore when my laptop ACTUALLY craps out. I could set it aside, but if I'm going to do that why not just buy the laptop now? It would be nice to be able to watch videos and use it for streaming....

tacom I love that lipstick too! It was a huge splurge for me, since I have a hard time spending so much on make-up, but even my H said "wow, that is really your color" the first time I wore it, LOL! I will definitely repurchase (and maybe get some more colors too).

Sweaters! And Scotch! We are in Scotland now so are stocking up on all things Scottish (although somehow neither of my sweaters was actually made here).

The bolded is actually really common among people in poverty an causes problems with being able to save and do better in the future. I know you are in a temporary rough patch and already have savings, but something to be aware of.
That being said, it sounds like your laptop isn't really functioning anymore if it is constantly crashing and can't stream video. There are a couple fixes you could try. If these don't work, I'd say you're approved for buying a new one, although make sure a $229 model will do what you need.
Fixes: Reformat the hard drive (2-3 hrs). Google "reformat" and your laptop model. On newer laptops it's usually really easy. Some older laptops you have to dig out the CDs that came with your computer. This will refresh the software and frequently speeds the whole thing up. If there are programs running in the background, that might be why yours is overheating. If this seems drastic, you can individually remove programs slowing down your computer. Clean Fans (20 minutes): With the computer off, unplugged, and with the battery removed, use a vacuum brush to clean the vents on your computer. If you're feeling very ambitious, you can try to remove the fan cover. Should remove some of the crud that is causing the computer to overheat.
I actually haven't bought anything too fun lately, save for a couple concert tickets. Less fun things: a humidifier to help with our nasty colds and birthday gift for niece.

Maybe I will start a spending freeze next year! I have been buying all kinds of baby stuff. I've been splurging on jewelry, spa time, hair care and make up.
I bought fun things for C's Easter Basket and some things to hide away for long road trips this summer. I can't wait for this weather to break to justify some new spring wardrobe purchases for myself!

Well, that's true. I guess my thought process is this - I have enough money to pay all my bills right now, and a few thousand dollars kind of sitting in savings for emergencies. I could save my refund, too, but I'm kind of hoping it will just be some added flexibility in my budget so I can have a little fun here and there (for example, we're going to New Orleans next month for a wedding, and I assume some of it will go to that). If I wanted to be really conservative I'd throw it in savings for an emergency, but I don't want to be really conservative (haha). I want to have some flexibility.
So, I could tuck away this money earmarked for a laptop, and when mine actually doesn't function anymore buy it then. I have the benefit in that case of having an extra $229 tucked away in case something really awful happens and I need some extra money, which is good. But. I kind of consider a laptop a necessity (which is maybe flammable?) as I used it daily, usually several hours a day. So, my dilemma. If this money is going to eventually go to a new laptop anyway, is there a benefit in holding off or should I just spent it now, so I KNOW I won't end up saying yes to something else I don't "need" to spend that money on? IDK.
I just spent $260 on baby stuff at Target. I am ready to stop the bleeding on baby items and buy myself some cute new spring/summer clothes. I can't wait to be back in regular clothes! I did buy a cute wristlet for myself the other day in the meantime.
I am also on the hunt for reasonable airfare for two weddings.
A vacuum. Our 10 year old $100 Bissell just stopped this morning while I was vacuuming. Stopped dead. I tried tripping circuits and changing outlets, it was dead. Fortunately, I had been preparing for this by reading threads on here and checking Consumer Reports. I knew I wanted a Shark and according to the CR site, even though the model numbers at Walmart Mart are 1 off from Kohls, they are the exact same but priced lower for the WM demographic.
I hopped on my a Discover account for 5% cash back at WM website, picked in store pick up(it was in stock) and DH picked it up 10 minutes away after lunch.
Clothes from ThredUp..Best part is that I used $$ from PayPal from selling stuff I don't use. (This is my year of not buying any new clothes with few exceptions).

My new job is very casual so I've been stocking up on cheap pair of jeans, boots, tops. Once I get my car and home repairs slow down, I'm going to do a complete wardrobe overhaul.
