short version is the babysitter whacked my friend's 3 year old daughter's head against something, then she put her to sleep and she never woke up. she was tried for murder and the jury found her guilty but the judge set it aside and she's free after appealing to NC supreme court.
so yeah, i'm turned off of any place (other than someone i personally know VERY VERY well) that doesn't have multiple layers of oversight.

That is so, so awful.
they're the most amazing couple, too. this has completely wrecked them. they're "back" but they'll never be who they were before. hailey died 4 weeks after grace was born and i can't even imagine waking up every day, much less being who they are.
early on i had hoped that they would have another child but the more time that passes, the more i think that's not going to happen. not that i blame them, but they were such great parents. it breaks my heart.
ETA: the most screwed up part is it's someone they knew from their church for quite a while. if i'm not mistaken she had worked in the church's daycare center. i'm not judging anyone for their choices because seriously, sometimes you just can't know.
No way. That means there is no liability insurance in place. If something happens (your kid gets hurt or worse), the lady has no insurance in place to respond. You could sue her but her (all) homeowners insurance excludes day cares.
