If we were to stay in SoCal I would say San Diego is my spot. I have lived in north county SD and kick my own butt for ever having left. I now live in the county next to SD but it's not the same as living there. The benefit of living outside of SD County is the housing is so so much less expensive. My house in SD would cost a fortune while right now our mortgage is less than $1k (we bought during the crash).
NC (lived there before as well) is another place I would like to live but I don't know which end I'd live in (I've lived western end and by the ocean). I want both the mountains and beach within an hour of me and that's not going to happen there. I have that luxury here and I don't want to lose that.
Oahu's North Shore would be my vacation spot or where I'd go for a few months out of the year.
No other state I have been to really calls to me like these three.
international would be Paris or the South of France! So gorgeous and so much character.
I live in Canada and am pretty happy with our city, there really isn't anywhere else I'd rather be up here but I have a job opportunity that has allowed us to pick any US city to live in and we have chosen New Orleans. I think it is such a unique place, also with a lot of character and artist influence, I can't wait to live there
Right where I am, in Seattle. If we absolutely HAD to move, I'd consider Portland or, possibly, Boston. But really, we'll never leave Seattle. There's not one thing I can complain about.
We do love Boston and that's why we live here, but I think we'd both be open to a change. I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your family, but if my parents lived in SoCal and we could do our jobs there, I'd move there in a heartbeat.

I live in Canada and hate my city. Lol.
But I would also live in the south of France in a heartbeat.
If I REALLY had my way, though, all the money and no job, I would love to be nomads. Live in Italy for a year! Rio for 6 months! Japan for a year! We'd keep a small home base but spend most of our time exploring the world.
We live in south Louisiana now and I love the food, culture, and being near family. I would love somewhere with no humidity though and prettier landscape. If I could move our families to Italy I would in a heartbeat. Or southern California (although the cost of living is so much higher there).
I've lived in Western Washington my whole life, and I don't think I could ever leave. The weather year-long is perfect for me, and most of my friends are here. If I were to move out of the Seattle area, I might try Olympia. I also might consider Bellingham, but I really hate snow, and if it snows in WW, it's usually the worst in Bellingham.
Somewhere along the coast of Lake Superior in michigan's upper peninsula. Somewhere like houghton or copper harbor. It's near a lot of great backpacking and canoeing areas. We'd probably practically live on isle Royale in the summer. Or Kentucky for the same reason, but also the bourbon trail.
DH still wants to move to the San Francisco area and it make sense for his industry, and I can go anywhere in the world and still work (as long as they have electricity).
However, there's really no way either of us are moving away from our families and friends. At least not for the next 25 years I don't think. I would have a hard time going far away. There's a nearby large town I would happily move to but there's nothing for DH career-wise there.
