What do you wish you had when you got home from the hospital? I'm taking advice from Lucie's List and from a friend who recently gave birth and am stocking up on a few essentials (nipple cream, lanolin, giant pads, etc.). So, what did you use when you got home? I want to be ready to go so I don't have to worry about sending someone to the store.
I needed a better variety of maxi pads and liners--I didn't have many on hand. Also more of the round witch hazel pads.
I also needed washable breast pads. I didn't even think about that.
I couldn't use the washable ones until my supply regulated waaaay later. Like several months. They are nice if you don't leak a lot, though!
Maxi pads, tucks pads, ibuprofen, food. I have a big bag of Costco trail mix stashed in my cabinet because I was so insatiably hungry last time. I kept peanut butter crackers in my nightstand for a few weeks because I'd wake up starving.
I also prefer to drink water from a cup with a straw and lid - it's nice to have a few of those around. (I'm also clumsy and prone to spilling.)
Make sure you take the peri bottle from the hospital.
And if you have multiple bathrooms in your house that you use regularly - ask for an extra one to bring home. My SIL just gave birth last week and was kicking herself for not asking for an extra one since she has a two story house.
If you are super leaky (<--------), the washable ones are either super visible or not absorbent enough at first.
Given that I've been leaking almost nightly for the last several days and off and on for the last several weeks, I'm guessing disposable is the way to go. lol
I learned quickly to have everything I needed in one place every morning. The less you have to get up off the couch, the better, especially if you have a sleeping baby on you. I had a tub with all the pain relievers, snacks, water jug, chargers, burp cloths, phone, remotes, everything, and I just sat it next to me on the table
Also, go to the bathroom before you sit down to nurse or hold the baby for a while. Inevitably, as soon as they latch or pass out, your bladder makes itself known.
ETA: Sorry, I know that isn't stuff you might need, but still, sound advice! Lol!
A sitz bath. We had house guests in and out, which made taking baths in the bathtub in the guest bathroom impossible. I wanted to sit in the bath to help my undercarriage heal, but cleaning the bath was way too time consuming!
Oh I also bought more Capri length light weight pj pants. I didn't have many lounging pants:). Also I liked Capri length because my long pants would get saggy and I trip on them on the stairs in the middle of the night.
I am 3 weeks post-partum, so this is very fresh in my mind.
-Stool softener -Gas relief (I like Gas-X) -Ibuprofen -Good pads (I like Always super thin overnight) -Earth Mama Angel Baby nipple cream -Comfy nursing tanks -Clean underwear and socks -Yoga pants (any other type of waistband irritates my c/s incision) -breast pads (I have reuseable ones from Etsy)

YES. Very good advice. I always use the bathroom first before feeding baby.
Alright, I just spend an absurd amount of money at Target, but I think I have everything I need now. Or, at least, enough to get me through for a bit. Thanks, guys!

A squeeze bottle for every bathroom you use (upstairs and down) tucks pads for every bathroom The second time, prep h The thin pads Night lights A small table for the nursery for water and snacks If you are having a boy and getting him circed, get gauze pads and vasoline
I really liked the Always Radiant Infinity pads. They are super thin and well worth the extra money. I also lived in a thin robe I picked up at Target. I felt like my boobs were out more often than not those first couple weeks, and the robe with a nursing sleep bra and yoga pants was basically my uniform. Also, comfortable underwear. I picked up cotton boy shorts from Target.
H ran out to get Milk of Magnesia for me. I also would try to prepare as much food as possible. I was anticipating lots of people bringing casseroles and whatnot, and only my mom brought us food. We were not prepared.
