I'm doing it, so give me your best tips. I'm quitting cold turkey on Wednesday. I'm scared I'm gonna fail again but I'm so done with this shit. I'm tired of smelling, I'm tired of feeling like I need one, and I don't want to keep up this nasty habit when my daughter gets to the age of noticing (I don't ever do it around her now anyway, but still).
my dad used the patch when he quit and i know a few nexties have had good luck with chantix!
Chantix scares the crap out of me, I don't know why. I already have super crazy dreams and not sure I want something adding to that lol. But it is definitely an option if nothing else works.
H and I quit at the same time (fun times right there) using Champix. I can't remember what it's called in the states, but it's close to the same name.
I would go get your teeth cleaned. That helped. Also, once we moved here we never smoked in the house. That helped a ton too. If you smoke in your house I would wash the walls and get the carpets cleaned and wash all the bedding.
I'll be honest, we are both getting close to the year mark and there are times that the only thing that kept me smoke free was knowing I'd have to hear the crap from H for the rest of my life.

I have about 8-10 a day now and it is very routine oriented. I have one at pretty much the same times everyday. I'm considering starting couch to 5k so I don't feel so tempted in the mornings, but DD's nap time and evening are going to be hard.
Oh, and (TMI) sometimes there is nothing better than an after sex smoke lol.
My H swears by the e-cigarette. I used licorice and kit kat bars. Lots of water, get a water bottle you can suck through a straw. And breathing exercises (like 5 seconds in, 10 seconds out). Sounds crazy but it does help. Good Luck!
I quit cold turkey 5-13-2004 and have never looked back. No meds, no patch, no gum. We moved and in our new town there was no smoking in any bars, restaurants, parks, etc.. We un packed, smoked our last one and were done. DH and I quit at the same time. We just decided we were done. You need to decide you are done and do it. No cheats, no emergency pack, be done.

Plummy, maybe do you want to be my quitting buddy? I've wanted to quit for a while, but afraid that I'll fail again, so I buy another pack and tell myself I'll quit after this one is gone. It sucks.

I'm definitely keeping all these tips in mind, thank you . Luckily, we are a one car family so if DH takes the car to work I don't have the option of going out and getting any. I'm too lazy (and it's way too hot) to walk.
DH is quitting too, so it's gonna be a fuuuuun week at our house.

Fantastic! Wednesday it is then! Yay! No more stinky hair!!!! (woah - a lot of exclamation points there)
Or stinky clothes or breath and a lot more money in our pockets
That was the biggest motivator. Cigarettes are $18 pack down here. H rolled his own. We save ... $163 a week. I have it set up that to transfer into our savings account at the end of each week.

$18 a pack?! Wow. Between the two of us DH and I are spending anywhere between 150-200 a month right now on them. Which is money that we could spent on much better things.
The patch worked. I put it on my back. I took it off at night. I never physically wanted one -- it was weird.
I smoked for 10 years l, age 15-25, a pack a day. Never had one again till...age 40. I had a cigarette on a camping trip and every once in a blue moon I will sneak one or two - but luckily it's way too gross to continue past having one or two.

I quit 2 1/2 years ago after reading "the easy way to quit smoking" by Allan Carr. No joke, I think it hypnotizes you into not wanting to smoke anymore. Whatever it was, it worked like a charm and I don't ever miss smoking, and I was a pretty serious smoker for a lot of years.

Good luck!
Yes, this book helped MrJJ quit until he went to Germany again (without me) where everybody smokes all the time. He started reading it again.
It was recommended to me by the guy who owns a variety store near my old work, it's how he quit smoking, which is impressive since he sells cigarettes all day.
