It the news is BAD AND SCARY AND MAKES ME SAD!!!1!
Dude . I don't have cable. If I'm at my computer I am finishing work not watching news. All my free time is spent on my family. I am happy for you that you have a typical family that is low stress and you can read the news to pass the time. I'm sitting in my living room in the quiet just doing nothing before bed. I read on the forums because I enjoy quasi conversations with people. Rudeness and using such language is uncalled for. Goodnight:
Sorry if I'm repeating myself and I already posted this - my phone is about to die and may have eaten my post. I think the two ideologies for effecting change are not congruous with each other. I am not saying that there is no one who has voted, volunteered, had sit ins or whatever kumbaya shit and has not reached the end of their patience and set a car on fire. There have always been people acting out in riots who share the "message" and those that see the chaos as an opportunity and I think it's the latter group that piles on and makes them spread so quickly.

Don't have cable. Don't read news. Have had a child with gi virus in my home for a week and 2 children with high needs and have been generally unplugged all weekend. Work, care for kids, clean up house, finish work go to bed, repeat. Apologize for this diversion from this thread...
We all have shit to do. I feel like there is some level of social responsibility to have an idea of what is happening around you.Â
And you know if you don't STFU.
I feel really lucky that I can sit on my couch and read about this story. I feel lucky that in a few years I can let my son leave the house and not worry about him being shot or having his spine severed because of what he looks like. I think some people in this thread need to pull their heads out of their asses and realize their privilege. People are dying we owe it to our kids to try and make the world better.

Oh dear. If you think this showed a lack of civility, you are really missing the point of the people living this.

I think people need to read what @kande818 wrote a few times.
And think about this:
How would you feel if a kid who looked like your brother was shot with his hands in the air. He had no weapon. And the cops who did it were not convicted and everyone said this kid who looked like your brother deserved it.
How would you feel if a kid who looked like your 12-year old son was standing on the corner with a BB gun and was shot and killed? But the cops weren't arrested or convicted here either and people said this kid who looked like your son probably deserved it.
How would you feel if someone who looked like your dad was standing in the toy department with a toy gun talking on his cell phone and the cops came in and shot him. But they weren't arrested or convicted either, because - hey - how can you tell a toy gun from a real one, amirite?
How would you feel if someone who looked like your cousin saw some cops and ran, but had committed no crime and then was taken on a "rough ride" during which his spine was severed 80%!of the way, but instead of people focusing on the cops who did this, they focused on the people protesting?
Think about these people who look like your loved ones and multiply it by a lot. People who look like your loved ones are being murdered all the time and no one is doing anything, very few are getting arrested and sure as hell no one is getting convicted. These are just a few examples of an endemic problem that America is ignoring or outright blaming on you.
Stream of consciousness. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.
Every time this happens, a black man being murdered by the police, I get more and more afraid. My heart literally hurts for these men and their family. I take this very personally. I have a black father. I have a black brother. I have a black husband. I have a black son. And every time this happens, I am reminded that the police can murder them with no consequences. I feel that even if I teach my son, as my husband was taught by his father and my brother taught by my father, how to respect the police. How to say yes sir, and no sir, how to keep his hands in plain sight at all time. But now, even if he knows and does all things, it wouldn't matter. It doesn't matter how educated we are, how much WE VOTE, how many letters we write, we are still seen as black first. And the people who have sworn to serve and protect us are the same people that are killing us.
I'm scared. I'm angry. I'm hurt. I'm tired.
I'm afraid for the safety of my family that I love so much.
Makes sense. Too much sense, sadly. Thank you for sharing. You brought tears to my eyes.
So many times, we look at the riot and not the root.
Because rioting drowns out the message.
lol. You're good at this game, I'll give you that. To you long winded fools in here, this is how you get straight to the point of being a bigoted moron.
No one who actually cares is missing the message. And I suppose a very small minority of people really are too dense to get it. But you and I both know that a half day of rioting isn't drowning out a damn thing.

My 8 yr old biracial son caught some of the news and we had a general discussion about why people were angry at the police and then my heart broke when he said "Mommy, that won't happen to me will it?"
And they should arrest every single one of them. If a wrong was committed ( it seems like one was though the facts are unclear) you don't correct it by another wrong. Let's teach our children better.
People are not protesting one wrong. They're protesting hundreds of years of wrongs. Let's teach our fucking cops better. Interesting that the rioters are the problem in your eyes.
Why does it have to be one or the other? The cops that were injured today could be completely innocent and now they're paying the price. I completely agree the excessive use of force by SOME police officers is out of control, but burning buildings and attacking innocent people is not the answer.
I am not American so forgive me if I am overstepping but I cannot comprehend why this is allowed to keep happening in America. It is sad and sick and unacceptable...but really what will ever make things change? I don't think it will ever change and this is the new normal. I feel like black people in America have already lost.
A child was gunned down and nothing changed. A cop killed a man and tried to plant evidence was caught on tape and nothing happened. Freddie most recently murdered and nothing changed. Are we being naive to think that white men wearing a police uniform will ever be held responsible and fairly punished for murdering black people?
Also as an aside I have never understood why the looters don't burn down the police stations and govt buildings instead of CVS
Those locations are heavily guarded. Since the guard was brought in, that's where they go. They're not there to protect the citizens and local businesses, they're there to protect the other government services.

What is then? Please, enlighten us. Because what people have been trying for decades hasn't worked.
I hate the "...is not the answer" cop out. Maybe not, but what the fuck is?

Because it's the whole system, top to bottom.
A whole fucking year of peaceful protests and we have an innocent black man DECAPITATED by the police. You tell me what the answer should be. If you answer, "I don't know." Or, "Not this." Then go sit down and shut up.

I don't believe for a second this is anything new...for some reason, the media has decided to focus attention on it now.

LOL The maturity of the last part of your response is not helping me taking your opinion seriously. At all. Was this man personally victimized by CVS? Or the neighborhood that's currently under attack by a bunch of cowards? No. I'm not saying there isn't a cause to be upset or angry, because there is. But stealing, looting, and taking selfies with destroyed police cars isn't going to change anything.

Yes, answers...we could prosecute murderers who happen to wear police uniforms, instead of blaming the victims for looking a certain way (you know, black) for starters....
