Has anyone been to Sam's Tavern? samstavernseattle.com/ Is the food good? So far it's the only place that's gotten back to me (not that I'm worried, it's been less than 24hrs) so I've just been emailing back and forth getting info, they have everything we need.
--------- So H's 30th is this year and he wants to do casual dinner/drinks, drinks, dancing. His favorite place to go dancing (the woods) is in Capitol Hill, so I need to find places near there. I'm actually not super familiar with the area for going out so would love some suggestions.
- I think he'd like something a little out of the ordinary, any place that was fun/unique that you love? - Could have a space I can reserve for the dinner portion, but doesn't have to (at least not fancy sit down, but if there was a separate space I think that would be kind of nice*) - No idea how many, but he'll be inviting a lot of people from work and they mostly all live there so I bet we'll get a decent turnout, so probably at least not a tiny spot
*Part of me thinks we should keep it super casual like "hey we'll be at this restaurant starting at X time and moving on after, text me if you want to know where we are", but then part of me thinks it could be worth it to reserve a separate area, maybe even pay a little. WWYD? I am sending out an evite regardless though because that's the best way to know who's coming and getting the info out (I hate email chains about these things, lol).

I hosted a bachelorette party in that area last summer. We reserved tables upstairs at Barca, and it went well for people to split checks. We also stopped by Purr, Grim's/The Woods, and we were supposed to stop by Unicorn, but the bachelorette got cut off . That was my only time doing the dancing thing in Capitol Hill, though.
I think whatever you want to do will depend on your budget. How much do you want to spend on food/drink? Do you want to hold guests more accountable and have them RSVP, so you have enough food?

this looks cool from what I can tell but their website isn't working
I don't think I'm planning on hosting the party... I had thought, depending on the set up that I could do some hors d'oeuvre or something though.

I emailed this: barca @ barcaseattle.com (no spaces), and they were really easy to work with.
I've heard about this before and always thought that would be fun!
I love the Rhein Haus and they were helpful with reservations and whatnot.
We had a bad experience at Barca however. We reserved space and were ignored until we left (at least an hour) in a dead bar
oh man, that sucks I've emailed all these and a few more I found online so we'll see. All I could find for Barca was their facebook page (the email maddawg posted wasn't even good), so I'm guessing I'll probably end up with one of these other ones.
Is Havana still around? Is it cool still? You can reserve the upstairs mezzanine there.
I just suggest that because that's where H and I first got drunk and made out on NYE. It holds a special place in my heart.
Or what about Tin Table? I did a bparty dinner there once and it was lots of fun.
I did come across both of those and they looked cool but I couldn't tell from their websites if they had a space, I'll email them!
H and I went to Tin Table for Restaurant Week last week. The space is smallish, but it looked like they had a private space that might work for something like a bday. The food was really yummy, I highly recommend!

@uwhuskygirl so... I got an email back about Havana and I have two questions. She said something about the DJ coming at 9 and it not picking up until 10 or 10:30, but I was trying to find a place for dinner at 7:30. Is this more like a club than a bar? It's fine with me if it isn't crazy exciting at 7:30, but at least it would need to be open!
Also, it's funny because apparently they don't have a kitchen, they just get pizza from next door, but they still have a minimum $500 drink order (haven't clarified yet, but guessing that won't include the pizza then)... I feel more nervous committing to that when other places are food and drink.
Also yelp reviews are mixed for the food at Sam's Tavern, which is a bummer because so far they have everything I need (I also am hoping to project a video surprise for H).
