I am on my 2nd one (back to back). I had some random spotting for a couple months, then I'd have spotting in place of my period but not in between, then NOTHING. I have not have a period in 8+ years. I love this thing.
I have had mine for three cycles now and love it!! (I agree with pp who said it hurt like a mother going in.)
I had hardly any spotting between periods and my last period was so light and short! (DH is already snipped so mine is in for cycle and heavy flow issues that I can't take oral bc for due to a high risk of breast cancer in my family.)

I've had it with no issues. It does scare me quite a bit however aside from one of us getting something permanent this is the best I option I could come up with.

I had light spotting for 4-6 weeks. I had to wear a liner, but it was NBD. My periods have been extremely light, which is nice. I had some cramping for about 24 hours post-insertion, but they were nothing compared to labor contractions!
I asked my cardiologist about the mini-pill and he said fine with a baby asprin a day...so that option is out for me (I have MVP)
I like the concept of an IUD!
I haven't asked him about the Mirena IUD though, which localizes the hormones released to just the uterus vs. the pill/mini-pill which is in the blood stream. There is less bleeding with Mirena than Paraguard (a big plus), and the synthetic hormone released is much less than the pill/mini-pill. I'm not a fan of it being only approved by the FDA for 10yrs...but there are more pros than cons at this point in my research.
When I asked my OB about Mirena during my 6w postp checkup, she refused Mirena...I'm not sure why to this day she never explained it. I will be contacting my cardiologist though to ask about this.
I am in the same boat as op, probably done with two, but not ready to take the plunge with permanent birth control. I was gonna ask about ours today at my pp checkup, but I think this thread scared me off from them. I don't want to deal with chronic bv or yi's. With my luck I would get all the possible crappy side effects.
I also don't feel like dealing with spotting since I am nursing and was able to go a year before a pp period last time.
I had heavy spotting for the whole time i had it. I got it taken out after 6 months. DH could feel the string poking him during sex so he didn't like it either.

I had a terrible experience with Mirena, but I still say to people to get it if your insurance covers it along with insert/removal.
I got mine after my second kid. No major spotting...just weird period times and sometimes mid-cycle spotting, but sex sucked balls. It hurt to have sex (I totally lost my sex drive - not sure if it was b/c it hurt or b/c of the hormones), I lost the strings in my uterus and had to have a dildo-cam to make sure all was well, and I could "feel" it in there. Seems weird to say, but I wanted it to work, so I kept it 6 months. I ended up paying the $200 to get it removed (which was pretty painful since I lost the strings, but super quick/easy).
I tried the Nuva Ring after that and really liked it. Not only did I have regular periods, but they were shorter and no spotting, plus you can take out for 2hrs a day for sex. I would have continued on that if my insurance covered it, but after 6-months of paying $40/month to have sex, I decided it wasn't worth it and went back to BC pills, which have always been fine with my body.
All that being said. I have one friend who had her Mirena for almsot 4 years and loves it and another friend who had it for a year and liked it.

I got mine when DS was 6 yrs old. DH was going to have a V, but then was in an accident - so figured I'd just take care of it on my end. it hurt like a son of a bitch going in - I passed out. but - I had some minimal spotting the first few months and then once a month I'll have a day or 2 of light spotting (in lieu of a period) and that's it. no other complications.
I got mine 9 wk pp and really didn't have any spotting past a couple of days. Almost 4 years later and I have had one period, which was really light spotting.

I had no real issues with insertion either time (this is my second Mirena). I am not one of the lucky ones that doesn't get a period while using it. I have continued to get monthly periods with Mirena. They're very light, but they show up like clockwork.
I wanted to love my mirena and even w/o having kids insertion was NBD really. A big cramp, then some cramping the rest of the day, but nothing too bad.
I had a couple light periods every couple months and then nothing. Then after about 10 months something went wrong and I would have spotting for a week, then a period for a week and some mindblowing cramps. Like OMG I can't walk cramps.
After about 3 months of that I had it removed. My periods even as a teenager on nothing weren't that bad.
I did not spot at all or receive my period while on the Mirena
{whispers} however i did conceive #2 while on it
Really?!? I know this can happen but man I'd be upset. I'm assuming all turned out well? Had it moved?
Yes. I cried. A lot.
Their opinion was it moved/my body rejected it. DS#2 was fine and we decided to remove it since it was visible during an examination (well poking about). I never felt any uncomfort, checked my strings, etc so I had no idea anything was remotely wrong.
I am the 0.000000001%. I'm on the nuvaring until DH gets the snip.

I had zero spotting with Mirena. I love it so much. I haven't had a period from when I got pregnant with DS in 2007 and counting. I was nursing and got Mirena and was lucky enough to get pregnant fairly soon after having it removed again.
We are certain H will get the snip snip within the first year but I am still getting Mirena.
I had it for 3 years. Regular period the first month, spotting the second and zilch after that. I will say that when I took it out, I had some of the absolute WORST periods of my life. My flow was so heavy (like having to wear a pad and a tampon and change the tampon every 1-2 hours).
I also had some of the bacteria smell that a few others mentioned.

I still spot occasionally and have had it for about a 16 months. I think it's worth it just because I like not having to remember to take a pill every day and my periods are significantly lighter overall - they never have completely stopped, unfortunately.
Insertion was NBD, I had some percosets left from my c-section so I popped one of those before my appointment.
We're in the same boat, and I got the Paraguard at about 12W post partum, and had a few days of spotting and cramping and then back to normal. I'm EBF and haven't had a period yet, but I have read they can be longer and heavier.
I enjoyed being without hormonal birthcontrol between my babies and I don't really want to go back. I know they say Mirena is very low dose, but I had read enough anecdotal stories of low libido, weight gain, and depression/anxiety on Mirena that I didn't want to risk it.
