DS is 10 months and still in the infant seat. He doesn't appear close to outgrowing it. He is not even 27 inches long yet and is under 18lbs. He seems fine in his infant seat.
Did you switch when they outgrew the seat? Or for some other random reason?
At this rate, I feel like DS won't outgrow the seat until he is 2.

Yeah, we have never carried him in the infant seat so I never saw that as a reason to switch. I must be a weakling becuase I think even at 5lbs that infant seat was too heavy to carry around ha ha.
We switched around 6 months. He was about 22 pounds then. TECHNICALLY he could have been in the infant seat much longer (he still hasn't met the weight limit yet at 14 months, and I think just met the height limit) but it just looked so uncomfortable for him.

We will probably be switching in the next 4-6 weeks. DS is 7 mo, 20lb & 28 inches. (The limit on his seat is 30lb & 32 inches)
We're switching because he's getting close to the height limit. We only have 1 convertible so we still need to get a 2nd for DH's car. Our BRU is having their trade in event at the end of the month so we plan to buy the seat during the sale.

7 months. She was like 15 lbs and 26 inches, but I knew she would like to sit up more. Plus she looks out the window now. She uses the infant seat if DH needs to take her somewhere in his car. She probably won't outgrow until 2 years old at the rate she's growing (height and weight).
We switched when he was 6mos old. Our infant seat maxed out at 30in or 30lbs. DS was 29in at his 6mo appointment so we just went ahead and switched then.

We had the Snugride 35 so DS never out grew it, but I couldn't carry it anymore because it was too heavy. I think he was 10 months or so when we made the switch.

See, I wonder if he would like sitting up more or looking out the window. I kind of want to keep him in the infant seat until Christmas if possible (since we are flying with him then). Perhaps I will see if I can stretch it out that long.
I won't be a weirdo with a 14 month old in an infant car seat will I?
DD is 9 months and we will be switching very soon. We just haven't had the chance to install the new seats yet.
DD's a peanut, but I just can't carry her in the infant seat anymore. I've been leaving the seat in the car. It's a pain because we only have one infant seat, so we would need to get it out of my car and move it to DH's car if we wanted to ride in his car. If you only have 1 car, I don't really see a reason to switch yet.
Ds was in the graco snugride 35 until about a month ago. He is 29 5/8 inches long & 25 lbs. His head was too close to the shell at that point even though the seat goes to 32 inches.
We switched a little after 6 months. I stopped using the seat as a carrier, so I figured it was time. My mom currently has the seat in her car – so it's still getting some use. LO is really tall though, so she's almost met the 30".
Griffin and Gibson (one of the twins) got switched at 4mo. They were both in the 18lb range and it was too hard to carry the baby seat with them in it.
Grayson (the other twin) stayed in his infant seat until he was 1yo - he weighed a lot less, and it was so nice to have at least one twin still in the infant seat- made it possible for me to carry them both at the same time, safely.
i stopped carrying his seat around 8mo, though- and just kept it in the car. He hit the weight limit RIGHT at 1yo.
The longer you wait to buy the convertible, the longer away the expiry date will be.
But we switched at 10 months when I realized I never carried him in it any more. He was about 18 lb. The new seat is easier to get him in and out of and lets him see more.

We actually already have a convertible (got it as a gift), and it has a 6 year expiration date, so I am not too worried about that. I assume in 5 more years when it expires i will figure something out.
You can still take the infant seat on the plane if you switch. We've actually lent our infant seat out to some friends that were traveling because it's one of the 30 lb buckets and they had outgrown their 22 lb ones. Either way, car seats generally check for free if you're not buying the kid a seat.
DD looked really squished in it, but what do I know? We almost never used it since we don't have a car and didn't have a snap & go. We made the decision to just get convertible seats at my parents & ILs when we traveled for the holidays at 6-ish months. She seemed perfectly fine in the convertible at that point (20-ish lbs and I don't remember how many inches tall).
I am considering only getting a convertible seat next time around since the infant seat for us felt like a waste. I can borrow an infant seat for the ride home from the hospital or maybe even walk home, depending on where I am if/when we have another baby.

I don't get the correlation between flying and an infant seat? If you take a car seat on the plane, you have to pay for another seat.
I flew with DD as a lap-child until age 2, including overnight international flights.

We are paying for another seat (I just feel safer this way). The only correlation is that an infant seat is easier to carry through the airport (in my mind) than a convertible. Put perhaps I am wrong?

I got wheels for our convertible seat and pushed it around the airport that way. They were go-goKidz brand.
Or, I didn't travel with a car seat at all, depending on our destination, and just wore DD in a carrier around the airport. That was definitely the easiest way to go.

Yeah, I am wearing him in the carrier (hopefully, he will be 14 months, so who knows if he will still like it). But I think I really want him in his own seat since he is already hates sitting in our laps at 10 months.

We're still in the infant seat and I don't think we'll switch him until 1 year. I'm also planning to use the infant seat on the plane when we go to HI right before his 1 year birthday.
