By the way, as an aside, and to make this CEPR, I have found that rich dems tend to be some of the worst offenders in these types of situations.
LOL. I totally agree with this. I think it's that rich dems have some sort of rich guilt and it expresses itself in really awkward ways.
I think you're right. I've noticed this as well. I also notice that old money is much more comfortable with themselves than new money. So you get a new money liberal and they are just all kinds of flustered around the common folk. Can we glitter "Rich Guilt" ?

In my hipster-heavy neighborhood, baristas are freaking celebrities. They all have twitter accounts and people will hold up the line for 30 minutes to try and get on a 1st name basis with them. Maybe not a SB because they're too efficient to let that kind of ass kissing happen, but every other coffee shop.
Maybe we should start a 501(c)3 coffee shop where we employ only Sikhs...

It would be way more awkward to pretend like you don't know her. Is she supposed to be feel ashamed that she works at Starbucks? My husband worked at Starbucks up until a couple years ago. Oh no! We haz the poor! Whatever. I'd rather be poor than be a stuck up snatch who wants to avoid eye contact with a lowly food service person who is serving them their shitty coffee.
I would not feel awkward if a fellow mom served me coffee at Starbucks. I would feel very awkward if a fellow mom was going to wax my lady bits at a salon. However, it wouldn't be faux classism and job snobbery causing my feelings of awkwardness.

And the comment re: the rich libs being the worst offenders is oh, so true. There is even a name for them: "Limousine Liberals." Those that drive through the poor parts of town so they can say "I've been there" and then throw money at social causes to help the unwashed masses but who don't get out of their cars or roll down their windows to say hello or actually, omg, converse, and then drive right on around the next time because they've already done their part.

Can we have an awkward-off? Because I was in line at the pharmacy in front of my son's day care teacher. Babycakes goes to day care at a baptist church. I was buying the morning-after pill. That was amaze with a side of balls.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

I think ignoring someone who works a menial job is A LOT more insulting than greeting them politely and wishing them a nice day.
Yeah, this. What's the matter with you that you could not say hello to this woman? The fact that she makes coffee for a living? Please. Not acknowledging someone you know is pretty freaking rude.
Did you even read the thread? She said later in the thread that it was a friend of hers that saw the other woman.
and I used to work as a janitor. Little did I suspect that my mere existence made people uncomfortable.
How much do you want to bet that the friend in question is all "bootstraps, people!" but then is embarrassed to actually know someone working hard to get ahead....
