Josh Duggar, one of the children in the hit TLC reality show 19 Kids and Counting was turned over to the Arkansas State Police by this father Jim Bob Duggar, who according to a source says the Jim Bob caught Josh leaving a young girl’s bedroom and later “learned something inappropriate happened.” The charges sought against Josh was sexual assault in the fourth degree, and took place while Josh himself was still a minor.
“I saw and read the report and it clearly stated that Jim Bob brought his son Josh into the Arkansas State Police and spoke to a state trooper about Josh’s involvement in alleged inappropriate touching with a minor,” another source added.
However, according to Raw Story, Josh was not prosecuted.
Investigating officer Sgt. Darrel Hignite, would not give a statement about the case. “I can’t comment or discuss [this case] because of the sensitive nature and because it involved a juvenile,” he said.
“A technicality prevented any further action,” a source told In Touch Weekly. “That’s been the biggest regret in all of this.”
The technicality seems to be an expired statute of limitations, as the report was first filed in 2005. In Touch Weekly does report however that since this case, the state has lengthened the statute of limitations for such crimes. The state trooper who originally took the report in 2005 never followed up and according to In Touch Weekly, “That state trooper was later convicted on child pornography charges and is serving a 56-year prison sentence.”
Josh Duggar is a lobbyist for the Family Research Council and lives in Washington, D.C. with his wife Anna and three children.

From how I'm reading it, if it were just a girlfriend that was around his age, there would have been nothing to prosecute. Looks like to me it was a much younger girl.

Ok then. I hope he falls into a pit of fire.
Although I am, BEGRUDGINGLY, a bit impressed with Jim Bob if this was an assault. I'd expect him to turn his son in to punish him for typical teenage fooling around rather than report him for being a predator and tarnishing their image.
However, a slight bit of begrudging respect is all he gets. Just a cookie crumb. Because it seems he did the smallest amount possible after recognizing that something needed done.

I'm in a Duggar/fundie critical FB group and based on the statutes in Arkansas law, it looks like it was NOT sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16. It could have been sex with someone over 16 (I think Josh was 17 at the time?), but it could have been something non-inter course related with a younger girl.
I think there was also a rumor about a failed courtship, which is super bad in fundie land, like a broken engagement pretty much.
Anyway, it seems like JUST kissing or even feeling up his girlfriend/intended would not warrant JB talking to the cops just to scare Josh because of the media scrutiny and whatnot. Taking him to the cops for kissing a 16 year old would be way over the top and not in character. They would handle something like that through their religious community.

This was 3 years before the show started. I don't recall them being famous before the show. Would there have been media scrutiny? Did they do something before their TV show? I'm not a Duggar follower, so I have no idea what their history is....

They've had TV specials for quite awhile before 19KAC. I want to say 14 or 15 kids maybe?

I'm not even sure I want to give Jim Bob that tiny shred of credit. Wasn't 2005 around the time he tried running for Senate? For some reason, I think it is, and I'm just thinking "Oh, he turned in his kid so if he ever got into office and it came out as some kind of scandal, he'd be looking some kind of hero that turned his in own kid because it was the 'right thing to do.'"
lurknomorepanicked They have been having TV specials since at around 2006. The finishing their house, which was completed in 2006, was one of them. These "specials" were the beginning of their quest for fame (and to have others fund their lifestyle since "Some of the painting, decorating, furnishings, appliances, and other finishing touches—such as a stocked pantry—were provided by Discovery Networks and corporate sponsors as part of the one-hour television special entitled 16 Children and Moving In.")
ETA: So if this happened in 2005, that was when they were likely in negotiations for the TV specials/shows.

I hope for the sake of whomever the girl involved might be that maybe JB just blew up over him front-hugging a sister. But he is a manipulative deceitful slimebag so I assume it probably wasn't so innocent.
"This prick is asking for someone here to bring him to task Somebody give me some dirt on this vacuous mass so we can at last unmask him I'll pull the trigger on it, someone load the gun and cock it While we were all watching, he got Washington in his pocket."

I think the first special was called "14 Children and Pregnant Again." I remember seeing it and calling my then-H in to see these crazy people on TV.

Even before the show, they were "famous" fundies. REALLY well known within the religious community and also a bit outside of it. They started doing Today Show interviews and specials back when they had their 15th - it was called 14 Children and Pregnant Again and aired in 2005. Jim Bob also ran for public office prior to that, I believe.
I'm honestly surprised that this was handled with the cops and not within their church. I'm trying to imagine what Josh might have done to get him taken down to the station. It seems like an extreme measure on Jim Bob's part. Plus this happened, what like 10 years ago? How would something like this be kept under wraps for so long?
much as I would love this to be true in a salacious way because I hate these people and all they stand for, I imagine JimBob called the cops when he found his son doing normal things with a normal girl.
I know suesue doesn't actually wish anyone was victimized. But yeah, talking about this like it would be a shame if it was just teenagers being teenagers and not something more titillating for us to get our hate-jollies out on is pretty gross.
I agree. Suesue didn't mean it that way but we have to remember these are real girls who went through this, unfortunately.
At the end it says that JB tried to hire a lawyer but the lawyer chose not to take on the case. First lawyer referred JB to a second lawyer and second lawyer also declined.
