I also saw a series of photos juxtaposing pictures from a "justgirlthings" tumblr with photos of soldiers.
Which proves what exactly?
Girls are frivolous while men are dying? I actually kind of like the concept; it just bothers me that it was gendered. There are lots of tags about frivolous things.
People who confuse Veterans' Day and Memorial Day piss me off more.
I've got someone in my feed having a hissy fit because someone tried to tell someone else there was a difference between the two days. She'll celebrate people however and whenever she wants, cause 'Merica!! And anyone who questions that just needs to shut up.
The poppy is a symbol of Armistice Day, which coincides with Veteran's Day. Again, I feel like people need a reminder that Veteran's Day =/= Memorial Day.
I dislike and disagree with the preachy tone of these FB posts however I disagree about the poppy thing. I think it's fine to borrow the symbol of the poppy for American Memorial Day because the poppy is a memorial symbol. McCrae poem here.
War and death and bravery are terrible and wonderful things that are hard to talk about eloquently. It seems natural to fall back on the poetry and symbols that other people have used.
Yes, one of the ONLY Memorial Day photos I didn't roll my eyes at today was of the poppy art installation that was done at the Tower of London last year. One for each casualty in WWI. We ARE legitimately honoring those people today. Plus it was a really powerful looking art installation.

That's another thing that bothers me. Not you, as it's tongue in cheek. But everyone using 'Murica or 'Merica. Especially around the 4th. Today it's "thankful the military fights for 'Murica freedom. We remember."
