DS' s school is closed. Today was his big end of the year field trip to the splash park. He's pretty upset. My office is doing a delayed start. Hopefully the roads clear soon or they just close the office for the day. It's nice to have the extra time, but I was already up and about when they made the call.
I was so insanely productive yesterday-3 mile run, 1.2 mile swim, pedicure, shopping, 2 hour nap at the pool, made and canned strawberry applesauce and strawberry lemonade concentrate, cleaned DS' room, shampooed our living room carpet, and made a yummy dinner for our picnic at DH's office-the rest of the week doesn't stand a chance to matching that productivity. It felt amazing and was a good reminder of our pre-kid life. DS was at MIL's all day and had a blast.
I am so freaking ready for Bas to learn more food words. Breakfast especially is difficult because we will feed him just about anything but he won't ask for specific things (other than yogurt which is a given). So I make him a little plate and then he'll eat some or none and beg for our food and auuuuugh. Or he'll happily eat something for 2 days and on the third he treats it like dog poop. So much food waste. Too early for negotiations.
I'm sorry to tell you that this happens even when they have ALL.THE.WORDS.
C is 3.5 and we are just starting to get her to understand about how we don't like to waste food and we can sometimes use the following:
"This or nothing" or "You're not getting anything else to eat until you finish this" or "Ok, but the next time you ask for food, I'm going to bring this sandwich back out of the fridge and that's what you're eating"
Yup. A favorite game for my older two is to tell me what they'd like, for me to give it to them, and then NOPE that's not what they wanted after all. They they absolutely peck me to death about the next thing they've decided they want, rinse and repeat. Crazy, this is why I'm going crazy.
I seriously need to mainline coffee today. I don't think there is even enough in the world.
M was so adorable all weekend. My friend was at the beach with us this weekend with her 16 month old and M was just so sweet to him and they had a blast. Made me feel so much better because he had been being such a brat to younger kids.
My friend is a single mom ( no family near by and dad completely out of the picture) I don't know how she does it. I am just in awe of all you single moms greencrayon, pinkdutchtulips and all the others I know I am missing. You guys rock!
Thinking of all you TX people and the flooding! Hope you're all doing okay.
I can't believe I have to be back at work today! The weekend was amazing, and I took naps every day. C slept SO WELL over the weekend, and then was up at 5:45 today because...of my alarm. So now I know; I'm waking her up when I get up for work. I have no idea how to fix this problem. Maybe I need to shut her door or get up earlier so it's still dark when I wake up and she thinks she needs to sleep more? I don't know. Need to put up her room darkening shade for sure.
Is it your alarm itself or you walking around getting ready that is waking her? Try setting your phone on vibrate under your pillow if it's the sound of the alarm. This is what we were doing when DS was still bed-sharing with us in the early mornings and he was able to sleep through it.
If it's the getting ready part, try closing as many doors as possible. Both of our kids sleep with their doors closed and we close the door to the kitchen, too, when we are in there in the morning if they're still asleep.
Ugh, chickens987, that sucks. I am so sorry. Did M pee all over her carseat in your H's car?!
Nope! She was dry when they got to DC. Little liar
DS is doing this too (he also PT this weekend). He'll run up to me and say "my underwear is wet!" so I give the "accidents happen, let's go use the potty!" speech. I check his underwear and he's dry. Such a weird thing to lie about!
I thought we had our house pretty well baby proofed, but r is suddenly showing us all the death traps we have around here. he climbs EVERYTHING. I wish I could hang things from the ceiling out of his reach.

DD just makes verbal lists. Yesterday, when I asked her if she wanted a waffle for breakfast: "I want pizza" "I want nuggets" "I want hot dog"

AHHHHH
DS is the opposite, he thinks every meal is dinner and all he ever wants to eat is "banana peanut butter waffles" (an Eggo waffle spread with peanut butter and topped with banana slices). ANYTIME you ask him what he wants to eat, he says "it's dinner time! I NEED banana peanut butter waffles." Always with the "I NEED", like he's dyyyyying if he doesn't get them.
And if I hear that we have a millionaire's family one more time I might lose it.
This is the first time I've ever heard an expression for this in English. In French, they say "le choix du roi," although I think technically that only applies to boy born first, then girl. (People still say it anyway for a boy-girl mix, regardless of birth order.)
Meanwhile, Spanish-speakers tend to just assume you only wanted a boy all along, so I hear "oh, finally, a boy!" Grrrr.

I'm debating whether H and I shoudl have a 4th of July party so I'm looking up invitations. We are already hosting something July 11 for my 30th birthday party so I don't know how badly I want to have a big bash...but the 4th is on a Saturday this year!
The crib we got for P has two drawers in the bottom of it. E can open them and she takes everything out of them. In other words, they are useless. Same with her change table, which is open, where I keep her cloth diapers...she takes them all out of the bins. And a cute little ikea cart where I have receiving blankets (that we NEVER use), she takes those out. These are all good time wasters for her, but really they just make more work for me when I have to clean it all up.
ugh, sorry. I let DD do the same thing - there's a bookshelf next to my bed and she likes to take all the books off. I let her because it gives me an extra 10 minutes in bed, lol, but it stinks having to put them all back!
I keep forgetting it is Tuesday. Today is Katie's last day of school. It doesn't start up again until after Labor Day :/ What am I going to do with her all summer??? lol. She's too young for camp.
noodleskooze - I-45 is shut down in both directions around Main street. There are also abandoned cars everywhere.
I would be taking I-45 to McKinney, so I think I can avoid Main. I'm not sure what to do at this point--I've already called to reschedule, but he seems to think it will be fine later today. I can't afford to lose this opportunity, so I guess I'm just going to have to hope for the best.
Just give yourself lots of time to find an alternate route if necessary. Things should be fine by later today assuming no new storms.
Kick ass on the interview!
Thanks! DH is off today, so at least I don't have to lengthen my route by bringing DS to my inlaws' house. I joked that I should pack my kindle, some clothes, and some food and water in the car just in case I get stranded on my way home (it will probably be raining again by then). I actually might...
What is up with the Coke campaign that now says "Share a Coke with..." Filled in with random nicknames or family members. Mine says "Dad". Thanks Coke for reminding me about my strained relationship with my dad and how we really can't just sit down and have a Coke together.
Back to work after 10 days off. Ooffff. So. Many. Emails.
Although I'm glad to get back into a routine. Naps/mealtimes/bedtimes have been all over the place and I just need to follow a schedule. DS is more flexible than I am.
Today should be Start Your Own Thread Day. I'm feeling chatty and since work already threw my shower despite me having 18 WORK DAYS LEFT I feel like I don't have to work here anymore.
namasteak - that sucks. Definitely call. You may also want to get a contractor their ASAP to see how bad things are so you know if you need to move really quickly.
