New build in a cookie cutter sub division.
My dream house is a colonial with big white posts at the front door. Also I prefer symmetrical houses with the front door in the middle. And a porch. Like a southern mansion. I saw a lot of nice houses in downtown Charleston, SC
Late 60s split level. I don't know what kind of split, though. You walk into a foyer on the bottom level. Mudroom and playroom is on that level. 4 steps up to the kitchen/dining/living room (and our master, but it's an addition), then the rest of the stairs (7 or so) go up to the 3 other bedrooms.
It's never what I would say I wanted, but I love our house.

Traditional farmhouse in the t shape layout and is of course white with a green roof/shutters. Wish it had a red or blue roof instead - I would love to do a whole red/blue/white decor theme for 4th of July etc.
I really would like to build - I'd like a ranch type/primarily one story layout but do some craftsman like styling and stone, etc.
I just can't see getting old in this house with all the stairs. I am planning that if we do build to try to think like I'm 90. Extra wide hallways, doors, tall toilets, walk in shower with bench, etc.
I don't even know what it's called. Normal? From the 70s? lol.
I think our house is pretty damn ugly from the outside.
I grew up in a house that looked exactly like this. It was a 1950s ranch with a 1 car garage when my dad bought it. Then 10 years later he decided to make the garage bigger, add some bedrooms on top of it, and extended it in the back to redo the kitchen and add a family room. It was big inside, but the house didn't flow right and I agree, it was an eyesore. Though ours was covered entirely in vinyl siding a la late 80s/early 90s.
We live in an apartment and if I had to buy a house, I would lean toward a ranch these days. Since having DD, I have come to love 1 floor living again. Stairs now seem so exhausting and inconvenient to me. We do have a loft in our apartment and I think that's the pefect compromise for having an upstairs - there is an upstairs, but it's just a little cozy room up there with a washer and dry and extra storage space.
