We have tons of black widows and their WWII bomb-looking eggs. Country living!
Same here, they tend to come out in the summertime here. I once took a flashlight out at night and there were three hanging on webs off our cypress tree. Last year there was one curled up in a ball on the kitchen floor. I poked it with a pencil and it moved, it was alive....in the kitchen. I did have that visual of burning the house down after that.
My husband was working out in the shed and felt something drop onto his arm. He swatted at it and killed it. Upon further inspection, he saw that it was a huge black widow spider. He sent me a picture of it and it gave me anxiety just seeing it.
I didn't even know this was a thing. My 5-yr old asked me randomly yesterday afternoon if there were black widows in grapes because she heard about it from a friend, and I was all "what on earth are you talking about? No, of course not!" Guess she was right.
::crosses Albertville Target off places to stop for produce::
I have grapes in my fridge at home. Now I'm going to have to go home and inspect them. Pretty sure they're from Target. Vadnais Heights one, but Target nonetheless.
::::SHUDDERS VIOLENTLY::::
Um yeah, I was just eating grapes I bought from the VH Target and opened this thread. Now I'm all crawly!! Ugh
Are you also in WBL?? We've posted back and forth on the other board and wouldn't it be funny if we're neighbors??
Dude. I literally just bought a bag of grapes. Fuck. My skin is crawling.
Eta: they're organic too! Should I just haul my fridge outside and burn it? The thought of spiders in my fridge is freaking me out.
I would put on some thick cleaning gloves and either inspect them carefully or take them outside and throw them away.
I hate black widows and brown recluses, but it's almost certain I have at least one brown recluse in my apt (they almost never bother you, but still freak me out) and I've seen black widows outside, and there used to be one on the outside of my window (I had pest control remove it).
I don't think I could deal with scorpions. I grew up knowing poisonous spiders are everywhere. The joys of the south. Scorpions freak me out (one problem my area doesn't have).
I have never washed or inspected produce more thoroughly than I just did.
Yup! My mom grew up in wbl but moved to another area after high school. My parents moved to wbl about eight/nine years ago. It's a great area and I love downtown - easy to walk, the farmers market is great, and they have some pretty good restaurants for such a small area (I love Washington and Aqua).
