Yesterday morning I kept feeling guilty that I had forgotten I was pregnant and went down a bunch of water slides at the water park…I kept thinking, how could I have done that? What was I thinking? Then I realized that I hadn’t gone to the water park the day before, it was all a dream – lol.
It's true, but I just don't want to be the "bad" mom. I feel like there are so many rules and with barely feeling PG esp. it's hard to remember them all. I'm bound to screw up at some point!
I'm feeling horrible guilt that I haven't stopped using my face wash yet. I promised myself I would after second beta but I haven't had time to run to the store to get a PG safe formula. We aren't even sharing a bloodstream yet so it should be fine but it's still upsetting me... so yeah, I get it.
I still use the very occasional dab of spot remover if I have a particularly heinous zit. Honestly, H and I have bigger worries and if I stress about all the little things in addition to the big, I'm going to go crazy. I mean, obviously I'm not going to hop the Channel and start gorging on roquefort and glugging red wine though.
Ha, this reminds me that the friend who told me she was 6w pregnant last week told me after she'd chowed down most of a salad with blue cheese on it. I said nothing - it would only have made her feel bad, and she'd already eaten it.

loira are all the soft cheeses around you unpasteurized? Most of ours in the states are pasteurized so they are still okay for pregnancy. I'm hoping to have some cheese in Europe this fall though!

It depends on where you get them. A lot of the stuff sold in supermarkets in the UK tends to be pasteurised, but farmers markets and specialty shops sell the good stuff. Restaurants should be able to tell you. I really don't have a taste for any soft cheeses right now anyway, but if I did I wouldn't avoid them (aside from blue cheeses which I don't like anyway). I have honestly never heard of anyone getting sick from cheese in Europe, unless you count eating too much of it. I'm pretty relaxed when it comes to food though. Maybe ask Muddled how she handled the cheeses in Italy.
um, I had no idea there was face wash not approved for pregnancy.
Stuff with salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide.
My face wash is fine, but I had to give up my favorite day and night moisturizers--both have retinol in them.
I gave up my stuff with salicylic acid and boy have I been breaking out. I did not get the "clear skin pregnancy glow" thing. I got the "I'm back in high school and going through puberty" thing. I can't wait to use that stuff again!

Where will you be going in Europe?
I am super relaxed about food. What about blue cheese is different? I'll be in London (YAY!) Sept 8-13, then headed to Paris the 13-16. I will need all your recommendations . Will you still be there?

My OB has retinol on the do not use list but benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid are okay to use according to their practice. Everyone's different though!

Taking a seat next to you. And I went swimming last week. Why am I not supposed to go swimming?
Swimming is fine. I think the PP alluded to the fact that she was diving and jumping in, ie rough housing of sorts. I'm sure this early in pregnancy though, it didn't hurt anything.
I go swimming all the time! I am pretty lax about rules. I heat deli turkey, avoid queso fresco (forgot about that for awhile, whoops), wear gloves to garden, and limit alcohol. I don't do anything crazy (roller coasters, bungee jump, water ski, stuff like that). I've already gotten yelled at on WTE from all the baybee moms to be (seriously, they are all like under 25) for being too reckless. Because you know I definitely don't care about my IVF pregnancy BAER. ivy I'd love recs! We're staying at the Edition in London and W Opera in Paris if that helps.
boiler717, I don't think there's anything different about them, I just abhor them so I stick them firmly in the 'no' category lol.
I will start putting a list together of all my recommendations for sure. What kind of stuff are you interested in seeing? London is huge, so it really depends on what your vibe is. Paris is smaller and a bit more doable in 3 days, but I have plenty of recommendations for that city, too. I've been 7 or 8 times now and it's always so beautiful. I really don't know if I'll still be here, but if I am I would love to do lunch or dinner!
In both places we want to do a lot of walking around different neighbors, finding cute little cafes and shops. In London I want to see some main tourists spots (esp anything royal or literary!). We talked about heading out to Bath and nearby areas for a day, but I don't know if I want to do a tour or worry about a car. In Paris we want to do Versailles, Louvre, and I think my husband has some other spots.
Awesome, boiler717. We stayed about 1.5 mile from each of your hotels. Obviously loira is going to have better intel, but I'll go through my notes tonight and message you. I kind of can't wait to go through it all again, haha. I'm so jealous you're going!

luckily it was like 3-4 of us and there was no rough housing. Thank you so much for that!
Omg guys my crazy mother just suggested I name the baby after my younger brother. The one who I said last night will probably not even be excited that I'm pregnant. He's a nice guy but we're not particularly close, he hasn't done anything of note in his life that I would hope would inspire the baby or something, he lives across the country so he'll probably have minimal impact on the kid... I mean.... what! Enough with the blatant favoritism, Mom! I almost wrote her back and told her she should get a dog and name it after my brother but I stopped myself. I just said "I'm not doing that."
cookiemonster read expecting better and you'll be set! It's quick. Gloves to garden is a toxoplasmosis thing -- just like kitty litter. We back up to a woods and probably have all kinds of critters doing business in our flower beds. Edit: aren't you in the city? I'm guessing it's less of a concern there!

Pregnancy is just a difference kind of mind game than TTTC/IF, but a mind game nonetheless. Asking others or googling has helped me calm the neurotic thoughts I've had along the way
FWIW, I have moments where I tend to forget I'm pregnant even now at 21 weeks. I was hiking on snow a couple weeks at Rocky Mountain NP and my dad and H were all "BE CAREFUL!". It took me a minute to realize why they were being so hovering, because that's not the norm. I wasn't doing anything dangerous, but now that I'm showing they were just being more watchful of me in case I tripped or slipped. It's easier for me to forget for a split second because I'm feeling great and pretty normal for the time being. This won't be the last time you have a moment like that!

Bath is very easy to get to by train from Paddington station (it takes about 2 hours), and is a small and walkable city. I definitely recommend it for a day trip and would not bother with a car or a guided tour. If you like Charles Dickens, I recommend the small but nicely curated Dickens Museum just down the street from where I live. The Tower of London is also a great experience, and I'd recommend it over Buckingham Palace.
Just to warn you, Versailles is definitely an all or most day thing. The Louvre is also enormous and you'll probably spend at least a morning or afternoon there. I personally prefer the Musée D'Orsay, but I understand that you've got to see the Louvre if it's your first time in Paris. If you want charming neighbourhoods, Le Marais is lovely. I also love Montmartre, though it can get fairly touristy. But if you stray from the main drag (har har) of Pigalle you can find some very nice little cafés and streets.
I'll PM you some more stuff later, including some of my favourite London pubs.

Can I put in a plug for Oxford? it's only 45 minutes by bus and it's so pretty. Not that I'm biased or anything.
Thanks for the reassurance G22! I REALLY needed to hear that!! I feel like I have been OVERLY careful so far, and to slip up like that just makes me question myself.
