What would you have done

I'm pissed at STBXH's family for telling him that I killed their cat. Last week I found a kitten on their land and it was sick and dying. I told them no less then ten times that I was taking the kitten because they said they'd just throw it over the fence. I had it put down and they told him I had no right to kill it. I lost it. I don't know what to do with myself about this. I know I did the right thing. Maybe I handled it wrong?

Did you take it to a vet who decided to put it down? I'm kind of confused.

I would have done the best thing for the cat and mentally told them to fuck off. What does their opinion matter? Anyone who knows me knows I wouldn't do something like that easily, so my reputation would be stronger than their drama whoring.

Yes, the vet said the most humane thing for it was to be put down.

It was shocking to me. I don't know, I guess I thought I may have handled it wrong. I'm just going to let it go.

Then I would just ignore the family and quit talking to them. I assume they are soon to be your ex-in-laws, so no need to waste effort on them when you know you did the humane thing for the kitten.
