For a 40 hour week, I prefer 5 8-hour days with regular hours and lots of flexibility to come in early/stay late as needed. I think 7:00-3:30 sounds pretty great for standard days. I currently have this schedule, but 8:00-5:00.
I work a 9/80 schedule now and really like it (7-4 and eat at my desk; 6:45-4:15 if I want to take a lunch). I would loooove to work four days every week, but I don't want to work 10s. I would consider a 10% pay cut for four 9s every week, but that isn't an option.
A lot of these responses don't add up to 40 hours. I guess I'm in "must be nice" land but I know almost no working professionals who can swing < 40 hours a week for full time pay. Maybe teachers / professors if you don't count all the work they do outside of school / research (which I know is plentiful and often adds up to > 40 hours a week!)
I mean ideally my full time schedule would be 0 hours and just get paid full time
Both my old employer and current employer are definitely more "project based" hours than a set schedule. Work when you want, get your work done on time. If it's less than 40, no one cares. It was frowned upon to work more than 40. I hope more employers switch to this type of model! Obviously it wouldn't work for all roles but it's so nice when it does. It's amazing how more more I get done knowing I don't have to be tied to a desk 40 hours a week.

I am a working professional (lawyer) whose office's hours are based on a 35 hour week (8:30-4:30 with an hour for lunch). I tend to work a bit longer than that but I usually end up shy of forty hours. By 5, my office is a ghost town. And generally, people in my office are paid very well. I sure am. It is fantastic.
The rest of our U.S. offices are based on 37.5 hours so I'm a little luckier than average, but still... These type of jobs exist!

I loved having a 9/80 schedule. Every other Friday off was awesome. Currently, I am 7:30-4:00 M-F with some flexibility to shift hours as needed or WFH occasionally.
I would love to be able to WFH at least 1 day a week. 2 would be ideal. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are my slowest days in terms of having to interact with people so a schedule where I could WFH Tuesdays and Wednesdays would be wonderful!
I work 6-7 24 hour shifts/month and am considered full-time. I am able to sleep at night if we aren't busy, so usually I will get 3-4 hours of sleep, sometimes more.
Other than having to work weekends/holidays, it is pretty much the bomb.
Right now I'm at work 8:30ish-5 in the office M-Th. I work from home at night after DD goes to sleep as needed - this can be anything from 10 minutes to 3 hours. Fridays off.
My ideal would be this, but with one work from home day. My stupid firm wouldn't let me do it though b/c "clients like to call lawyers in the office." Which is complete bull shit, but whatever. I'm going to lobby for this over time.
I love my current schedule. I work a compressed schedule. I work eight 9 hour days and one 8 hour day, with one friday per pay period off. I also WFH two days a week.

Have you met people who work for educational institutions? Most of them technically have a 35 work week with a schedule of 9-5 or 8-4 (or 8:30-4:30, you get the point) with an hour for lunch in my area. The biggest university in town technically does 37.5 hours with 8:30 - 5.
My flexible schedule is a big perk of the work that I do now. I do currently have some weekend work and I will admit that I'm starting to really dislike it. I signed on for it at a time when I did not care about my schedule at all but now I have more of a life, so I'm getting to be less wild about it. So basically, my schedule minus the weekend work is pretty ideal, but even my weekend work is kind of flexible.
I might go back to a more traditional office schedule and environment for the right pay and position, but I do really like my flexible hours and extensive ability to telecommute especially because I live in an area with horrible rush hour traffic.
I'd do 9/80 given the choice. Let's be honest I work 9 hours a day anyway, it'd be nice to have a day off. Really though if my kids could still go to daycare is so 4 10s and start early.
