These pics are of our basement in our new house...this isn't our furniture but you can see the floors...(edit: we didn't install it and we don't in the house yet so other than photos I have little to offer. We will be putting cork (black) in our new kitchen too).
We researched it a LOT for our kitchen in our new house, but in the end went with hardwoods. It would have only been about $300 less to do cork that we installed ourselves, vs. new hardwood someone else installed!
It totally depends on your preference and what you have in the rest of yoru house, but if you would really prefer hardwoods I would price it out!
I agree about hardwood. Our new house is over 50 years old and has the original hardwood in the living/dining space and all three bedrooms (and the hall). The kitchen is currently a vinyl and we want to change it but since we can't really match the original hardwood we are going to go with cork instead. The cork in the photos is what is already in the basement. We are also finishing another room in the basement and we will likely go with a high grade carpet in there (it's going to be a guest room once we need all the first floor bedrooms for children- hopefully!).
