Seriously though, NQB, I'm sorry you are all worked up. I don't think it's something to spend so much time and energy on, but I get how if you are having a rough time, it's easy to get caught up with. What happened with your friend?
It's a long story but she essentially showed her true colors and really hurt my feelings. I tried calling her on it and she got all crazy and crossed a few lines. Personally I would just write her off but I have to deal with her on a daily basis so that's not an option. She's about to make a terrible MM decision and it's all I can do from point it out to her but everyone else is all like "yay, you go!"

We all have things we freak out about, especially when times are stressful. I remember being all up in arms because the cornbread I'd been buying from the grocery store for months suddenly one day had jalapenos in it, without any warning.
But, honestly, your dogged insistence on this subject, the strangeness of your reasoning ("'sex' refers to differentiation of the species"?), the expectation of an immediate response, and your apparent inability to see the other side of things in which this is a completely appropriate headline...
At first, I was just kind of playing along, but now it's uncomfortable. Take a step back, talk with your spouse, and try to get back on an even keel.
I'm not sure how all of you have missed my crazy over the years. I guess you don't want to know what I did when Oriental Trading Company messed up my order of 60s party supplies.
NQB, if you come to visit your sister in college this year, let me know and I will take you out for a drink.
Columbus Day weekend!
And I just majorly bitched out Oriental Trading Company over Facebook and twitter and they sent a courier with my funky mood rings and other various crap. Because don't mess with me.
Also I have been on bcp since Tuesday. Hmm. Only 16 more days of that nonsense.

BC can definitely mess with you. Hang in there, lady.
FTR, I am with you re: your feelings on that title.
Thank you!
Also I just realized that on Wenesday I wrote to another author and called her a dirty pirate whore but I'll share that story when I get home later.
If someone said, "I admit, I burned that house down," do you think it's not true to write: "Man admits to arson"? Do you think that when murderers admit to murders, they say, "I admit I committed murder in the first degree?" No. They say, "I killled that guy." It's not a lie to say, "man admits to murder" when someone says, "I shot that dude dead."
"having sex with a child" is just a sanitized way of saying "rape." They are the same thing. You can't have consensual sex with a child, any sex you have with a child is rape. Just because he didn't use the right legal terminology doesn't mean he didn't admit to doing the act.
I'm not sure I'd write a letter to the editor over this one, but I do understand where nqb is coming from.
Ditto. Actually, I don't think I'd be worked up about not receiving a reply from the reporter, but I would write a letter to the editor expressing my disappointment/displeasure over their erroneous terminology. I would not say anything about how the reporter didn't respond to my email, as that's really irrelevant. The issue is the irresponsible reporting, not the unresponsive reporter.

It may not be irresponsible journalism. If a man was charged with rape but plead guilty to a lesser charge of unlawful conduct with a minor, then the reporter has to use unlawful conduct with a minor. If the reporter doesn't, it is libel and opens the reporter and the publication to lawsuits.
You're cracked. And I loooove that your smug little diatribe contained a misspelling... And then you blamed spell check. Adults should know how to spell "recommend" without the use of spell check... Especially adults who feel superior in regards to writing, as you obviously do.
I think you could have kept it short and simple with your first and final lines:
-I'm not sure how much editorial control you have as far as headlines go, but can I kindly recommend you change the title of your recent article on the Times Union web site? -Since the victim was a very young child the more appropriate word would be "rape."
done and done!
As a side note, I always love when the biggest GBCN crazies make their way over here solely to tell other people how "cracked" they are. beautiful! (*)

Lol @ this being the reply that is admonishing her for errors. I can't.
This is no loss here lol. The more important thing is that she and her sidekick show up whenever there is the slightest hint of drama. #nolife #miserableshit
