Brought to you by the fact that I have $432 in PC Plus points racked up and the cashiers all think I am insane. My Canadian girls will know what I am taking about. It more or less means I can spend $432 at my local grocery store (where they also sell clothes!!!).
I also have $85 at Shoppers Drugmart (Pharmacy). This wouldn't be anything special except I recently spent my previous point hoarding of $170 so getting back to $85 so quickly is awesome. Except not for my bank balance.
Ok...who else hoards points?
I need to get us an air miles card because of what we spend at the liquor store. We use all our Scene points (movies) on restaurant gift cards since we rarely go to the movies anymore.
OMG, how do you have over $400 worth of PC points saved up?!!! I cash those suckers in every time I hit $100. Do you get the email with the weekly bonus points offers that you can load onto your card? I find my points are racking up even faster since they started that.
I have been collecting Shoppers Optimum points for basically my entire life and have only been able to cash in an occasional $5; apparently I don't spend as much there as I think I do.
DH's scene card had a free movie on it but his points just expired due to not being used in like, over two years or something. (wilted)
We put almost everything on our Delta Skymiles Amex (and pay it off every month). About every two years we have enough points to take an all inclusive vacation. Last year we went to Jamaica and only had to pay the tax and some fees. A week at an all inclusive resort, including air fare, and we only paid about $300 out of pocket.
I'm hoping next year we can go to Costa Rica.
I forgot about my Discover card. I don't use it as often, generally only when a place doesn't accept Amex or for whatever is 5% cash back that month, but whenever I get $90 cash back I cash it in for a Sephora gift card for $100. So I get most of my make up and skin care stuff for "free".
I like collecting and redeeming hotel and airline points. I was really into redeeming them before DD came around. I'm still collecting them. I put all of my home and office phone/internet/cable on a Chase card to get the 5x Ultimate Rewards. I have an SPG card for everything else.
This weekend we made an MMM plan and I redeemed my points for 3 free nights at a basic hotel planning to make it our base point and just be tourists out and about. After night 1, we realized that was a dumb idea, cancelled the rest of that hotel stay and checked in to a nicer hotel. I had points for the second hotel, but I had never redeemed for that group and the free night room type wasn't available. The trip turned completely not-MMM at that point, but we knew that and mostly had a good time.
I will be redeeming some airline miles for an upcoming trip to DFW and some hotel points for a wedding in Buffalo. Not nearly as exciting as when I redeemed for places like Maui or Salzburg or Sorrento. DD is not ready for Salzburg, no way.
The only points we collect are airmiles. So far we have used them to fly to Florida to go on a cruise, fly to Hawaii, and we just used some to go to quebec for a wedding. We have enough left for one of us to fly anywhere in the us or canada. Whoohoo! Haha. Time to start saving again.
Oh! I collect points at Chapters/indigo too (books) but I use those fairly quickly.
I want to save enough grocery points to cover a month's worth of groceries but now that I realize I can buy clothes at Joe Fresh I might have a new incentive to lose weight. Maybe I will have $600-700 saved by then and can go on a spree, half for winter stuff, half for summer!
DH and I both have pc points (he has a mastecard) but since we share grocery shopping duties, I don't rack them up myself very much.
I think I have the $85 in optimum points. I haven't redeemed in forever. I rarely shop there anymore since things seem overpriced. Pretty much when I stopped working there and getting my discount, I stopped buying as much there. I don't even know what I would redeem my points on right now.

Very overpriced. I only buy for points and try to get stuff on sale. I essentially do it to get free cosmetics that I can't get elsewhere. Lol.
Our local grocery chain does a gas points. Mine is currently so high I can save .80 a gallon. I need to use them ASAP though as I think they expire soon. I also think that's the cap.
I have $80.00 in gift cards to our creamery's store. It's such a fun place but in an out of the way spot so I never really go. That's a lot of pizzas and cheese...lol.
Everything goes through my credit card and I end up with like $40.00 in rewards every month, which I promptly transfer to Amazon and I use to buy fun stuff for the kids and me.
I used to get Airmiles at work, I'd get over 1,000 a year. I miss being a gold member lol. Of course dh did some major negotiating with our cable company and they gave us 15,000 miles. They'll all go towards free groceries. We also get points on our visa (RBC). We convert them to mortgage rewards. We've put probably $700 on our mortgage using them.

That's so cool that you can pay down your mortgage with them.

Okay, we love AIs and should be doing this instead of buying random extras on Amazon. Do you mind giving a ballpark of how much you spend per month and the value of the AI trip you take?

Our monthly Amex bill is usually between $2-3k. We charge almost all household expenses: groceries, Costco, gas, clothes, going out, utilities, etc etc. We've had a few months of higher bills for stuff like repairs, renewing car tags, annual vet check ups, and what not.
I think If we had paid out of pocket for the Jamaica trip it would have been around $3k total, maybe a bit more. We booked the trip while Delta Vacations was running a deal on Caribbean vacations, where your points were doubled or something like that (DH actually booked it, so I'm Not 100% sure what the exact special was). Anyway, by using our points that way we had enough to pay for the entire trip. The trip we took to Mexico 4 years ago we didn't hit a special and had to pay more out of pocket, although we did still get a big discount on the trip. I think we paid about $1100 for a week at a Cancun AI. Once we build up a good points bank I'll start keeping an eye on the Delta vacations specials again and hopefully we can find another awesome deal next year!

Thanks! We need to look in to this. Our average bill is the same as yours because we also charge everything...I think I'd rather save up points for a vacation than random Amazon purchases....maybe that would actually make me buy less on Amazon? Maybe not, but worth a shot:)
ETA: I've never really credit card shopped and just looked this one up. Had no idea how many different options there are and how in the world do you choose?!? Will be reading up on them!
I am hoarding Delta miles for an awesome vacation. We also have the Barclay arrival plus, so hopefully between the two, we can somewhere for minimal out of pocket cost.
I use my PC points more or less as quickly as I earn them. I can tap to pay if the bill is under $200, so sometimes I'll just save points to use whenever my bill is over $200.
our tap to pay is a $50 limit. i hate it. i can't recall the last time i spent less than $50 in one trip unless it was literally for one item.
Ok, apparently I can use my PC points to buy gift cards. So if they sell Banana Replublic GC I can use my points on them!!! Hello shopping spree...then all I have to do is shop during one of their endless 40% off sales!!
dude. you have just changed my life for the better. it never occurred to me to buy giftcards. i like using my points to buy gifts for people so i don't have to account for that in my budget. now if i have an idea to get from another store i can get a card and still buy it! or maybe i'll just start picking up cards for us as treats when i have a decent amount hoarded.
i had a descent amount of points, but i just cashed most of it in on a housewarming gift for a friend. they've been house sitting/hoarding money for a down payment for 8 months. they just bought a house and are moving in this weekend. she was lamenting how expensive it would be to stock a house from scratch so i spent $70 buying dish soap, bathroom cleaner, toilet paper, etc. i was very careful to match my offers too so i got another 11,000 points back after the purchase

Yep! It hasn't occurred to me either. In fact, if we don't use it for me to buy clothes, we could get a best buy card and get a dyson!
We get thank you points on our citi credit cards and put almost everything on them each month for points. I can usually cash in for $100 Lowe's gift card every 3 months or so to cover random house projects.
$1k in discover cash back $500 in chase freedom 50k Barclay arrival points Not sure about Citi dollars, I think just around $250 My hotel / airline miles took a hit with first class to Europe and 10 nights in London and Paris at fancy hotels. I'm down to: - 350,000 delta miles - 200,000 Marriott points - 10k SPG point - 40k hertz points

We have a Chase Freedom card and always use our points for airline miles. We currently have around 80,000 points and used 25,000 recently when we booked flights for DH and I to go to DC in November. You can also get gift cards or just cash them out (80,000 would be $800) but we hoard for when we fly. I think in our 11 years together, we have paid for 1 flight.

Omg how do you collect all these point?? Teach me your ways!
I'm sitting with $109 in PC points. I have the PC Mastercard so that helps them add up faster.
Shoppers I have about $100 but our local Shoppers just closed and the next closest one is an hour away. Their everyday prices as way overpriced but their sales are great. I've heard that they will be switching to PC Points in the new year since they are now owned by Loblaws so I will probably use them up around Christmas when they have one of their spend the points events.
We have a RBC Visa card with travel rewards and I save those points to use on vacations. Its not enough to pay for a vacation but it does help.
I do not hoard credit card points, I use them as they're available. But I do track them. Last year I redeemed for cash and flights worth $4500, and this year I'm already up to $3450 in redemptions (and have more ready to be redeemed).
I also have a decent amount of miles and such, but I find it hard to redeem them so those I tend to hoard.

Discover, Citi, Chase and Barclay are all from personal spending -- we charge about $3k a month, plus this year we had all of our IVF expenses charged. All the travel specific ones are from work travel and my work card (Delta Platinum Reserve Amex). At my peak I was flying 3x a month, charging around $75k a year in business expenses, mostly travel. Now I'm down to once a month, around $25k a year in business expenses.
