For those who have had both the SIS and HSG, was one any worse than the other? I've had the HSG done before (clear tubes) and it wasn't the best feeling in the world, but also not the worst. Is the SIS any worse than the HSG? I made the epic mistake at reading an SIS thread on GP, and everyone was like "ZOMG, it was the worst thing EVER!" And now...I'm terrified. Talk me down.

I've had both. It was uncomfortable (felt like period cramps) but I felt fine as soon as he was done. It seemed like the SIS took a little longer than the HSG, so the pain was less but the procedure took longer.
I haven't had an HSG, but I did the SIS and I found it to be pretty painful. Like some of the worst cramping I've ever had. It was the worst when they were injecting the air bubbles. But as soon as it was done, I was fine. No cramping afterwards.

The saline was uncomfortable, but not unbearable. The air bubbles shocked me a bit, but I don't think everyone gets those. My RE was trying to get a look at my tubes that way instead of doing an HSG. Sorry to freak you out on the other thread! I honestly think it's rare for it to be painful. Wishing you the best with yours

My HSG suuuuuucked but my SIS was no problem. There was a little bit of pressure with the SIS but nowhere near the same kind of cramping and pain as the HSG. Hopefully yours will be he same!
I was wondering about this, too. Like you I have done the HSG and have the SIS coming up. Hope it goes well for you!
Same for you! When is your SIS scheduled for? I haven't scheduled mine yet, but I should start AF in the next few days, so I'll have a date for the SIS after that.

I haven't scheduled it yet either. I won't be getting AF until the end of the month probably (maybe later) so it will be in Sept sometime.
Lurker jumping in....I have had a HSG done but what is the difference between the two? Do you need both done?
HSG uses a radioactive dye and an x-ray to view the uterus and the fallopian tubes. I think most doctors use this to make sure the tubes are not blocked and are properly connected to the uterus, and for the shape of the uterus. The SIS uses saline solution and an ultrasound to view the interior of the uterus. Generally I think this gives a better picture of the uterus (ignores the tubes) and works better for finding polyps, etc. I only had the SIS done prior to IVF, I think it's less common than the HSG.

I have no idea if an HSG expires if you're doing TI or IUI, but my clinic requires uterine cavity evaluation within 6 months before an embryo transfer. Since tubal patency doesn't matter at that point, I just needed to do an SIS.
I found the SIS to be easier. I think the discomfort was the same, but being in the radiology room in the hospital freaked me out so the in-office SIS was better overall.

soooo...i THINK i had this done during my mock transfer the other day? they definitely did an abdominal ultrasound and i had to wear a pad for the day. but i could just be a dummy and will let my RE stick god knows what up my lady bits.

LOL! You probably did - that's when I had mine done, same day as my mock transfer.
I think the RE-patient relationship becomes sort of like Stockholm syndrome at some point. At our class yesterday the IVF nurse was like "yeah, you will get pregnant and then can move on and forget all about us here, yay" and I'm like NOOOOO!!!!

YES! after my mock, the IVF coordinator Denise was all "hey! how'd it go?" to which i replied "oh great, nothing says fun on a wednesday morning quite like getting something poked into your cervix!"
