Sorry to PW but this is consuming me and if I don't get it out somewhere I'll explode. :@ ^o) :-(
School just started today so most the rooms posted over the weekend and even today are already filled. Or they are showing them before 5 and I can't get there until after 5.
Also, most of the damn rooms are "LDS Standards" which is just annoying. Sure, I could live 6 months without an over-night guest or using my place to pregame but I definitely need booze in the fridge.
AND the places with 1 bed/studios are open 9-5. I work 8-5 with no car to even take a long lunch this week and view a few places. It's so god damn annoying.
Finally, washer and dryers are like gold. I've been very spoiled in the past with having a w/d in my place. Moving means it may not happen. Ugh.
I wish I could delegate this to somebody. Someone to find and set me up a handful of appointments for the week and I could just view them. Any takers? LOL.
ummmm... isn't requiring a tenant to obey 'LDS Standards' against some sort of housing law?
Landlords can't discriminate based on religion, right?
I could be totally off base here, or maybe I am missing something, but it would just seem like they can't forbid you to do something in your own home that isn't illegal. Someone please point out to me how/why this is ok?
I personally don't think those sorts of things should be required of a potential tenant. Of course, I am not a landlord, nor do I live in Utah, so what do I know?
Do you want a room or do you want to be homeless? Suck it up. And the whole pregame thing sounds ridiculous. How old are you? Say cocktails or something.
It's annoying. I understand people have their religion and want to practice it in their household or whatever but eff dude. I just want beer in the fridge. LOL.

That's what I think also. But a majority of the postings around here say "LDS standards apply." I think because it's so "common" that no one questions it.

I mean, I know that units can forbid pets, and I know places that are no-smoking, but I thought religion was one of those things that you couldn't specifically screen by

I'm not going to adhere to someone else's lifestyle; I wouldn't expect someone with LDS standards to shot gun beers with me. I'd rather live by myself.
Why does pregame sound ridiculous? It's what we are doing, pregaming for the main event. It's not cocktails before we go out, it's shots and beers. It's a term everyone I know uses. Even though in their 30s and with children.
Gah that does sound frustrating. I've started casually perusing the housing listings in the city I'm (hopefully) moving to in the next few months. A one bedroom, non smoking, off street parking, with onsite laundry does not exist for under $1000 no utilities included. I can already tell it's going to be difficult.
That LDS thing sounds like total BS. Isn't religion included in fair housing laws? If you can't descriminate against people with children, you shouldn't be able to descriminate based on religion. But it's hard to prove.

Yet another example of the trashiness that is bliss and how trash attracts trash.
I would not pay a broker to find an apartment. I bet if you call around, they will be willing to show you a unit after you're done with work. Or, you could take a few hours off in the afternoon and view them all at once.
Well, I really can't take a few hours off. How am I going to get to that area? I don't have a car to leave early. So that's what sucks. That's the 2nd frustrating thing; figuring out how I"m going to view all these places.
I'm looking at 2 tonight, shared rooms. And possibly 1 studio. Crossing my fingers.

I feel so honored to have my own personal troll!! Finally, after all the years I've been posting here. 8-D

Don't busses run there? How will you get there if you live there?
The area I work isn't very transportation friendly. Remember, that's why I carpool. If I were to leave work early, say 2 PM, I still wouldn't get downtown until after 4 PM. That gives me the option that looking at maybe 1 place.
I'd get there the same way I get to my current place, carpool. I'm looking to stay within 5 blocks of where I live now so it won't really screw with my current system of getting around.
Rent a car? Really? You already know me so well, so I'm sure that you can answer that.
I think you have to be 25 to rent a car, right? Plus I can't imagine anyone would rent one given her driving record. (Sorry) ...
I appreciate that everyone thinks they know my history but really please stop assuming that you know specifics and whether or not I can rent a car. I can by the way.
I don't think it's a smart financial decision right now with the cost of moving. You know, deposits and stuff. Spending $100+ on a rental car doesn't seem like a smart option.
As for borrowing from a friend that's difficult when we all work different hours. Or the same hours on different sides of town.
I've thought of all these options. If they were able to work out I would have done it.

So borrow a coworker's car at 2pm-ish and have it back for carpool by 5? You can pay for a tank of gas or something. I'd have no problem letting a coworker borrow my car.
That's very nice of you. But that's not an option for me.
1. Never heard of the term pregame used as it is in this thread.
2. Can't you pregame somewhere other than your apartment?
3. If you end up living alone, how would anyone know if you have adult beverages in your apartment? I mean, as long as you're not waving around your bottle as you walk into your apartment, it should be okay. And I assume you'd only invite guests who wouldn't have a problem with drinking, so it's not like they're going to report you. Just stay under control (no crazy loud parties) and you'll be fine. A couple of friends having drinks during a game shouldn't be so wild that the neighbors complain. If more people are involved, go to someone else's home.

100+ on a rental car for a day or two to find a place to live? First off, I HIGHLY doubt it will cost that much. Secondly, it would be well-worth your money on this to have a place to live. Instead of complaining about it, why don't you check around with your friends or whomever to figure this shit out? Put an ad on craigslist asking for someone to help you for gas money. DO SOMETHING other than complain.
I haven't heard the term pre-game since college. No one I know now (late 20's) uses it. If you are hanging out with a younger crowd, the term would probably apply in your circle.
I love that my usage of certain words always starts something. Remember "lovah"?
So what do you call pregaming? Is there a more "adult" term for this?

Seriously...this is what I am dealing with, it makes me weep to see how much a damn room costs, especially when a studio in the same area isn't too much more (well, I guess it's like 50% more, but you're not sharing with people!)
Bliss, I did what I said I'd do, and I'll let you know. But I did see a couple rooms on craigslist that didn't seem too bad, one that was posted today even listed that the gal worked full time so while it may be tough to get out there to meet up, at least the hours part is knocked out.
I get hat sometimes it seems like everything is stacked against you, but you gotta just push through...when I was looking for my room out here, I send out what felt like hundreds of emails, made dozens of calls, and I got back 2 responses of people who said they'd let me live with them...it kind of sucked, but at least I have a place now (even if it isn't 100% ideal - which it so isn't)

1. I never knew it was such a big deal to still use the word "pregame."
2. As I mentioned in my OP I wouldn't pregame at my place if I lived with someone with LDS standards. However, I'd like to keep booze in the fridge. I typically have a beer or glass of wine 2-3 nights a week with dinner/after work. That's something that I don't want to give up.
3. If I end up living alone it's not a problem. It's living with housemates who are LDS and expect their roommates to be as well. So they can all go to the singles ward or something.
4. I'm not a big fan of "shitting where you eat" so I avoid big parties at my place. I hate people even knowing where I live. Only 6 people know where I live currently.

How do you know I'm not doing something other than complaining? How do you know that I haven't asked friends for help looking at places? How do you know that I didn't check into renting a car? Or borrowing my mom's?
I have, btw.
And again, I'm looking in about a 5 block radius for places so I can walk there or easily hope on trax. However, there are a few places with 9-5 hours that I'd like to see but may not be able too. That bums me out. But it's not a big deal, I just move on to the next posting.
You're assuming I'm not doing anything other than complaining. I'm do EVERYTHING I can but it's still frustrating and I'm going to complain.

I think I just spoke with her and arranged a meeting for tonight.
I don't feel that everything is stacked against me. I'm not worried that I won't find a place. I'm frustrated that I was told this yesterday, based on my landlords jackass assumptions. If he would have told me sooner than I have been fine. But to tell me that I'm resigning a lease and then tell me that I'm not a day before school starts is just dicky. That's what's frustrating.
I'm just flustered. And want to complain about the damn LDS standards.
