Do you make people take their shoes off when they come to your house? We have hardwood floors, so I don't care if they wear them and am not offended if they do. I would only not like it if it were snowing or if they were dirty or something.
I ask because I am going over to a friend's house for the first time and have a great outfit picked out, but I have to wear heels to pull it off. If I have to take my shoes off, it will ruin my whole look.

I can't help bit giggle at this first world problem.
We don't ask people to take their shoes off. If they have muddy shoes, they know to take them off outside. But we have vinyl "wood" floors. And our carpet is old and needs to be replaced. I probably wouldn't ask people to take their shoes off even if we had real hard wood floors.
You might creep on their facebook and see if they have any pictures of the inside of their house... If they have carpet, you might plan on a different outfit just in case. Or if they're from Hawaii or a country where it is customary to remove your shoes before entering.

I don't. People will often offer or just do so automatically if it's messy outside, though. I don't like it when people ask me to do so at their houses. My feet get cold easily, and I also don't like walking around without shoes or slippers. I rarely walk around without at least flip-flops or slippers in my own house. If it's messy outside and I'm going to someone's house, I tend to wear boots and then change to other shoes when I arrive.

This. I hate "having" to take my shoes off at someone's house. Now, if it's more of a casual night with the girls I'll bring slippers. But yeah, I don't like the feeling of walking barefoot indoors and feeling dirt/crumbs on my feet.

Nope, never. Despite the fact that I prefer being barefoot, I hate when people ask me to take off my shoes because I feel awkward. I've never asked anyone to take theirs off because I figure if it's gross outside, they'll wipe them off. I'm not friends with jerks.
I don't unless it is winter because the salt can ruin hard wood. I do ask when I visit someone's home though if they would like me to take my shoes off. If the shoes are a must for the outfit I would skip it just in case

I don't ask people to, and I hate when I go to someone's house, and they make you. It was fun looking at houses and the were a number of people that required you to take off your shoes. Our real estate agent had a lot to say about it, lol.

I usually recommend that people keep them on! We have a kid and 2 dogs, the house isn't really ever clean. Plus, I hate when I have random shit stuck to my bare feet so I wear mine or slippers all of the time.

Never. I've only been asked to remove my shoes in one or two homes of a different culture. It's a very off-putting concept to me but I comply when asked, especially if that's a norm for someone else. I often take off my shoes at my house but not always. We have wood floors, not white carpet, for a reason.
