Michelle, sometimes I wonder if you really read the things you post, or if you realize how you come off. You seem completely tone deaf so often.
I was typing too fast.
Go look yesterday at [edit - downtoearth's] post about the stupid breitbart article and my responses there and then come back here... It might make a little more sense that I was sharing a continuation of that from yesterday.
So when a white kid shot up a church he didn't represent all white men, all racists or all confederate flag-loving Americans. He was just a deranged person with "mental illness".
But when a black man kills a white cop it's immediately assumed that he must hate cops and must be part of the BLM movement. All before he was even arrested.
Ted Cruz Blames President Obama for Inciting Murder of Texas Cop "Cops across this country are feeling the assault." —By Inae Oh | Wed Sep. 2, 2015 10:59 AM EDT
Following the brutal murder of Texas Deputy Sheriff Darren Goforth over the weekend, Sen. Ted Cruz is blaming the Obama administration, especially the president, for inspiring anti-police sentiment and incidents of gun violence toward law enforcement officials.
"Cops across this country are feeling the assault," Cruz told reporters when campaigning in Milford, New Hampshire, on Monday. "They're feeling the assault from the president, from the top on down as we see. Whether it's in Ferguson or Baltimore, the response of senior officials, of the president, of the attorney general, is to vilify law enforcement.
"That is fundamentally wrong, and it is endangering the safety and security of us all," he added.
The Texas senator and presidential hopeful even accused President Barack Obama of staying "silent" on Goforth's murder, when in fact the president condemned the shooting and violence against police officers as "completely unacceptable." On his way to Alaska on Monday, Obama also phoned Goforth's wife to express his condolences.
Cruz is hardly the first to denounce the president for provoking anti-police hostilities. Following the murders of two New York Police Department officers in December, former Mayor Rudy Giuliani went on Fox News and accused Obama of disseminating "propaganda" that "everybody should hate the police."
another part that seems to be missing in the narrative is that much of BLM started not with just the outrage of killing of black people, but also the lack of justice when these situations happened. I am horrified at the death of police officers, but I am relieved that the perpetrator is captured / killed or otherwise put through the justice system. That is not a luxury that we have been afforded until very recently and it still remains whether charges will actually lead to a conviction and some sort of punishment. So this tit for tat rhetoric going around comes across as very "why don't we have a white history month" kind of ignorance.
I posted this link in a different thread, but it's a very well written blog post on this issue.
Every time something is posted from there, I crinkle my nose at the link thinking that it's going to be Breitbart-esque and then end up really liking what I read.
In my utopian bubble I like to believe that #blacklivesmatter is about addressing violence and like Nitaw said, criminalization of every black person a cop comes across.
But to me that is not necessarily synonymous with #killthepolice. You can want peace for one without violence for the others. You can want accountability for the corrupt cops without wishing death for all cops.
Do we need founders of #blacklivesmatter get up and say - "Hey folks - please do protest, that is what we need. But don't go and do the same thing to the other side that we want to stop being done to us. Don't assume and treat all cops as the ignorant racist ones who criminalize, abuse and murder innocent blacks until you see evidence that they are doing it. When you do, turn them in. Publicly shame them. Don't murder them."
I don't think or want #blacklivesmatter to be denounced. I think it's important. But I don't like it being twisted either.
Really? You think we need a #notallblackpeople campaign? Really with this?
No. Extremely unfortunate sentence omission and then I was off the internet for hours unaware of how my comment read.
I am saddened and very sorry that it came off as it did. Please see bracketed edits on the original comment.
@koko , @246baje I am REALLY sorry that came across that way, and I would have been pissed reading it too.
Do you think there is anything that Obama could do to help the racial tension? What would that be?
Not be black. Short of that, I don't think there is shit he can do.
Not related to you or your post but I have to get dressed and out of here so just posting here, but I am still waiting for links or some other hard evidence that some or any black lives matters folks have called for violence against LEOs.
The day before yesterday down to earth posted an article by Breitbart. I linked the thread in the opening comment's edits for context. Within that thread I shared some articles that show Breitbart, which is a very popular website in Texas for right wingers, is trying to create this racial tension and race war drama.
This video is not of BLM protesters but rather the Black Panthers. It explicitly calls for death to police officers. Ideally rational people would see that the Black Panthers do not speak for the whole BLM movement and you can have people who are pissed off at the issues facing Blacks in America but have different focuses. You can also have members of the Black Panthers who speak differently from the primary organization. I don't know whether the black panthers overall endorse the chants of oink oink bang bang and calling for the death of police officers in this video, but because they Were protesting the same day at the jail as BLM protesters, the message is being lumped together by people who want to further that agenda.

Here's the thing, it's quite clear that black lives matter and black panthers are two entirely separate entities. Similar only in that they are black organizations. And we as white people need to be the ones to step up and hit our fellow white morons over the head with the difference. It won't help (nearly as much) if it comes from the black people themselves because people will brush them off (as they have always done). If we want change, it has to come from the people in majority telling the other people in majority they are wrong and to go sit down.
This is my issue with your posts. YOU need to be speaking up to your Facebook friends to highlight the difference. YOU need to point out the hypocrisy. YOU need to get rid of the language of "in my utopian view black lives matter is about addressing violence" because that furthers their agenda, that only in white girl utopia is hat possible - which is just false because that IS what black lives matters is about in our current non-utopian world.

I am confused. What do the black panthers have to do with the black lives matter movement? Because they both have black in their name? Because they both have black people in their groups? It is unclear to me what the black panthers chanting about kill police officers have to do with the black lives mayter movement these are two different groups are you associating them as the same thing and, if not, who is? I can't see the links right now
I actually think the Houston police (ie, not a bumblefuck no one in Beaumont) is responding to this pretty well.
Some facts about our police force - 53% are minorities. I think he said 1200 members of the force speak at least 2 languages, and that they also do a lot of community policing.
Police Chief Charles McClelland said Houston is different from cities where anti-police protests have occurred.
"And it's not just because we're lucky that those things and riots and burning down the town didn't happen," McClelland said. "It's because we have open communication and regular dialogue before some of these controversial incidents happen."
McClelland said rhetoric for violence against law enforcement comes from a small group within certain movements.
"Black Lives movement is about holding police accountable for police overstepping their authority, but sometimes you will have extremists that will latch on to a non-violent positive movement and folks that don't have a good grasp on reality will seek that out and that will be their mission," he said.
The chief said Houston is a city where minorities are a 53 percent majority in the police force.
"And they come from our neighborhoods! Their parents and grandparents still live in the neighborhood They have a connection already," McClelland said.
Chief McClelland was a guest on Houston Matters.
Unfortunately, I think the damage done early is hard to come back from...

They are black.
And happened to be in the same place at the same time.
And as I mentioned, I think this is Breitbart's agenda.

Look, it doesn't matter if they are Black and on the same street. This WHOLE THREAD IS WHY BLM IS HAPPENING. I can't do single.solitary.got.dayum.thing without being put up as the spokesperson for all black folk every where. Brietbart ain't bout shit anyway. Those MOFOS don't do shit but stir up things to excite their ignorant ass readership. YEAH I SAID IT AND BEFORE I ADD IT BACK, I'LL ADD MORE TO IT.

I DO speak up to my FB friends and those in my community. I am considered to be a fanatical bleeding heart liberal in Texas and my circle. Because I do speak up and challenge the nonsense.
And you obviously didn't go read my clarification about my utopian bubble. I clarified that my utopian bubble is desiring to believe people can use logic and read up to find out how things started rather than taking a manipulated, twisted meaning from the media. To not see BLM and valuing cop lives as mutually exclusive.
Yesterday it sucks that I typed fast and moved on without proofing to make sure my thoughts actually typed out the way they are in my head. My post came off as eloquent a and clear as that pageant girl saying "such as Iraq and such as education and such as..." I deeply regret and did apologize and clarify that. And I don't sit at my desk in front of this page all day to have caught my error in time. I am often typing from my phone so there are spelling errors or talk to text errors that I need to be a lot more careful about proofing, I learned very clearly yesterday.
And happened to be in the same place at the same time.

NitaX I agree. My only reason for posting the original thread was to share that this shit is going around here. Not that I endorse it in any way.

Every time something like this happens and all black people are assumed to be complicit with the perpetrator, I keep wondering when we're going to start profiling white men based on the fact that they perpetrate the overwhelming majority of mass shootings. Maybe every time a white guy shoots up someplace we should demand that Mike Huckabee & Co. publicly denounce the offender and his motives.

Remember now, we already said white folks don't have a sense of community so, holla at me when Huckabee and his Fox News cohorts start with the "THAT AIN'T MY COUSIN" denunciation of acts of foolishment.
