Beyond heartbreaking. There are photos of some of these children's bodies and it left me speechless. I am conflicted about the ethics of these photos being made public - on one hand, they are horrifying and terrible and these families deserve privacy, but on the other hand, is this what the world needs to see to be spurred to action?
Needless to say, these links contain disturbing images:
This whole situation is heartbreaking, with no easy solutions. My heart is with these refugees, but I understand that making room is not easy for a lot of these countries. These are huge numbers they're seeing, and they all need a ton of help. The logistics are a nightmare. But so is the reality of what they're running from. I don't know the answer, but it obviously can't continue this way.
The Daily Mail fuzzed out the photos of that toddler, so it was startling to see an un-editied version of it. I have a 3 year old boy who looks similar to that child so it's a little startling and very sad to see a boy lying face down in the surf. My first instinct is to turn that baby over so it's odd to see someone just standing over him like he's just a piece of driftwood...like no big deal. Sad.
Omg. That poor little boy is there a dependable org that is accepting donations for these refugees? Is there anything we can do for them?
Yesterday on Facebook I saw a video of a family with a boat that is picking people up. They provide medical help and assistance. It made me cry watching the video. I will find it The migrant off shore aid program. Don't know how legit.
I saw photos earlier this week of children who had washed up from capsized boats. I want to find the words but I can't so I'll just offer up this article. It describes 5 different ways you can help refugees right now. Some aren't relevant to those of us living in the US, but there are still some good suggestions. MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station) is the organization they recommend sending donations to.
If you live in Germany or Austria and have the means, you can host refugees in your home via this organization (Refugees Welcome). They will help you fundraise rent if needed and also provide continual support for you and your guests. You can donate to their organization as well.
