CBSNEWS - After standing by her brother Josh throughout his sexual molestation scandal, Jessa (Duggar) Seewald is finally taking a stand.
The "19 Kids and Counting" star, who had initially stayed mum when it was revealed that Josh's email address was found in the hacked Ashley Madison database, finally made it clear that she is no longer going to defend her brother, even after her parents did not condemn him in a blog post, instead saying they are praying for him and sending him to a treatment center.
"Go to seewalds.com and read the post on the Ashley Madison scandal," wrote the reality star.
Jessa linked to a post her father-in-law Michael Seewald wrote about Josh. Michael is in no way vague about his condemnation of the married dad of four; he had harsh words for the brother of his daughter-in-law. He said while he was understanding of Josh during the child molestation scandal, now he believes Josh has not learned his lesson.
"After hearing of Josh's scandal when he was a teenager, I publicly stated that Josh appeared to be a changed man, was walking above reproach, and living out the faith that he professed," wrote Michael. "I stood in solidarity, encouraging him to use the scandal to build humility and grace. Sadly, he had deceived us all."
He also called Josh a hypocrite, and called him a "pretender" who was clearly not making a real effort to be a faithful Christian.
"He claimed to be a Christian, but by his deeds he has suggested otherwise," he wrote. "With the name of God on his lips he lived a covert and extensive lifestyle of evil. While proudly saying things like, 'Our family is like the epitome of conservative values,' he was looking at porn and soliciting affairs. He took a job at the Family Research Council that exists to promote the traditional family, all the while undermining his own family by violating his marriage covenant."
He even said that Josh was a shame to the Christian faith: "The thing that is so hurtful is that he was a loud voice endorsing Christian ethics and he has been shown to be a fraud. I am profoundly grieved that he attained such a platform only to bring shame on God's holy name and the Christian faith."
Michael, father of Jessa's husband Ben Seewald, echoed what many pundits and social media users had been saying all along. The difference is that this time, Jessa was listening.
While this seems like a vague step in the right direction, I still shake my head three ways from Sunday that the cheating was the last straw for these people, NOT the assault of his sisters and the cover-up by his parents.
Was just coming to say the same.
It’s sad and disgusting that sexual abuse - of children, no less - ranks lower on the scale of sins and appalling actions than adultery between two consenting adults does. Really sad, and really disgusting.
ITA.
I think in their minds, this is worse than the ped.0 situation. That they could claim he was just a kid, etc and has changed. Adultery was a conscious, adult decision. And a recent one at that, so it kind of cuts against their "he's changed!!1!" cries.

I think the level of anger at a cheating spouse versus child mo.les.tation is telling about how they feel about children. They're their property, their soldiers and there to serve the purpose of spreading their word. They aren't individual beings worthy of affection and protection.
It is not that infidelity crosses a line that child molestation does not. These people are out for blood because Josh made them look like fools. They all stuck their necks out there for him, which they could do because (1) it was easy to frame as media wrongdoing and Christian persecution and (2) they could sell it as a testament to the power of prayer, forgiveness, and their faith.
Now he's gone and made an ass out of his defenders and neither excuse is applicable in any way here. They've got nothing.
If you actually believe these shitty people are indignant because of poor Anna, you are a nicer person than I am. This has nothing to do with the sanctity of marriage and everything to do with politics and dolla dolla bills.
I think Jessa is bitter to the extreme that this fucker messed up her "famous" life and lifestyle. I don't watch their show but I get the impression that a few of the girls were basically the stars of the show. Now instead of a baby special, she has no show and looks like a fool for repeating the "he's changed" garbage.
I'm torn between thinking it's kind of hilarious and genuinely feeling bad for her - she was raised in such a terrible environment, and maybe the show and stuff was her way to live a more normal life in some ways (I mean, she doesn't have Jesus bangs). And now she can't even have that. I'd probably throw a temper tantrum too. Maybe she's also pissed at her parents for supporting him and teaching her to support him and forgive him instead of supporting her... linking to her FIL is probably a way she feels comfortable disagreeing with her parents, too.

I think it's telling that in this situation, where Jessa isn't one of the people who is "supposed" to forgive Josh (Anna is), she feels safe and angry enough to publicly shun and strike out at him, even if she still can't own those feelings and has to point to her FIL doing it. Her parents would have never, ever allowed that to happen during the molestation scandal, and she did her duty and toed the line then. It's "okay" if she lets it be known that she's not okay with Josh now, since she's not the one expected to grant instant and wholehearted forgiveness.

That is a good point. These people are so disgusting.
