If there's one thing about Hungarians people should be aware of, it's that they don't forget anything. It doesn't matter if they felt wronged in the 14th century or in the 20th century or yesterday, they will remember. That should offer some background on the part in there about the Ottomans.
Frankly, I think it's really petty that they're using the freaking Ottoman takeover as a reason to not want more Muslims in their country. But alas, this is the leadership Hungarians elected and none of this is surprising.

I have been reading a lot on this in the last few days and so thanks for the additional links and thoughts. I keep coming back to the Hungarian leadership being so xenophobic - I feel like the US is privileged to be a removed from the discomfort of this b/c we are geographically separate, but then I look at how we treat immigrants who try to get into the US and realize, we aren't that different, just further from Syria/middle east and closer to Central and South America.
