i've had experiences like that where no parent is around and I try to help a little kid or sweetly try to keep them from injuring themselves and all of a sudden the parent shows up a freaks out. People are weird.
If anyone wants to prevent my kid from serious head injuries, please, have at it.

I'm glad the baby didn't fall and you were there to get mom's attention. With that said (and this being CEP), I'd rather smother my face in the cesspool of bacteria that is sephora's floor samples than read "trashy" as an adjective to describe a human being, esp a child.
Something like that happened to me in France. I was on a train during rush hour and it was really crowded. There was a woman with a baby in a stroller (maybe 18 mos old or so) who started goofing around with me. She would wave and then I would wink or make a funny face. Kind of typical toddler trope. Then she stuck her hand out "give me five" style, and I "gave her five" and her mom at this point finally saw that we'd been interacting and freaked. the. fuck. out. En francais. So, I only understood like every third word she was saying. But she was certain that I had put something dangerous in her kid's stroller or otherwise threatened the life and safety of her child.
Given the circumstances of a stranger on a train, I guess I could be slightly sympathetic, but as between the two of us, I clearly had the less menacing appearance. People are weird. I asked a friend of mine later if I had violated some kind of french norm - like don't interact with other people's kids. And he was like, "Nope. That lady sounds crazy."

Except no one did that in this thread.
From the OP: "... with her 2 trashy pre-teen girls..."
Am I allowed to admit that I have a soft spot for @majorwife when she describes anyone or anything as "trashy"? Because I know she's not actually being a condescending snob.

LOL. Some people are trashy, though. Sorry not sorry.
I hate the word, period. But I don't cringe nearly as much when it's used to describe behavior. People, on the other hand? People are not disposable, not worthless, not inferior.
It doesn't help that it typically has sexist, racist, and classist undertones (I don't know the OP so I'm speaking to the usage of the term in general).
