Texas man sues county --- claims they asked views on abortion, gay marriage and only hire Baptists

Robert Lloyd worked in law enforcement for 25 years and was a candidate for Williamson County Constable. He interviewed with Williamson County Commissioners and was in utter disbelief at the line of questioning:

He claims the Williamson County Commissioners asked him illegal questions about his views on gay marriage, religion and abortion.

"I was shocked," said Lloyd. "I was sick to my stomach when I left because I had never believed that things like this in government would go on."

In recorded depositions, commissioners confirmed they asked the questions. Why?
His lawyer said commissioners asked the questions about gay marriage, abortion and religion because they are all Baptist and wanted a Baptist candidate.

"If you don't go to the church that they go to, you can't have a job as a public employee in Williamson County," said Krause Yang.

Two other people have come forward to Lloyd's attorney, both confirming they were asked a similar line of questioning.
Attorneys for the county commission say they are eager to defend the case. Don't be surprised if the words "religious freedom" come up in their defense.

Two other candidates were initially a part of the lawsuit, but settled with the county. A federal judge recently denied a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. Robert Lloyd is pressing because he thinks people have the right to know what goes on behind closed doors.

Lloyd, who recently started teaching criminal justice at Georgetown High School, said that even though the legal process has been long, he would continue fighting to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“The good people at Williamson County don’t see a lot of this that happens behind closed doors,” Lloyd said. “I stood up for others my entire law enforcement career. I live for the people I served.”
