This was first aired when I was in law school and I was so blown away that I'd watch my videotape (yes, I am ancient..) after finals for the next 2 years and then favorite episodes for years after. DH bought it for me years ago - I imagine I threw out those old videotapes years ago.
If you've never seen it do yourself a favor and watch it.

I've watched bits and pieces. It is very good, and somehow I never made it to the Civil War in any history class in school, so it's mostly new information. H keeps changing the channel though.
I have such vivid memories of watching this with my parents when it first aired. I used to show a couple of the episodes when I was teaching Civil War literature, and I can't wait to see the remastered version.
I love this series. I watched it with my parents when it aired. The most touching thing in that entire series is "Letter to My Wife Sarah." It's a letter from Lt. Sullivan Ballou to his wife. The letter is read accompanied by Ashokan Farewell. It made my dad cry (still does.)

i caught it the last 2 nights ... i'm a sucker for american history ... even a big sucker for american history that involves places i've been to ... Appomattox Courthouse, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg.
i have yet to watch the entire series but i'm sure its spectacular .. Ken Burns is amazeballs !
We live right around the corner from one of the big sites and it's so strange to see these old photos of the place that look...exactly the same as today.
It's also definitely haunted as all get out. I get scared driving by it at night LOL.

I watched it in school when it originally came out. I think I was in 6th or 7th grade. On VHS.
We've been re-watching the whole series all week on PBS. Set to record it and have been playing a bit of catch up. I distinctly do not remember parts of this, like the whorehouses in DC. Our teacher totally edited it.
That said, I remember everything else we've seen so far. So she didn't edit much. Kudos to her, cause I went to a Podunk little catholic grade school.
Is this the one on Netflix? I need to get back into it.
That's the original this is the anniversary edition All the eps are on PBS.org I Think until sept 22. If you have Apple TV or the like they are on the PBS app on that as well
