I am weird about my car as well now. I get it detailed every week and I have these organizers in the back. Take stuff in every night etc. I HATE getting into a dirty car.
Same here. I used not keep up with car care, let stuff accumulate in the car, etc. But once we bought our first new car outright, it was like a switch flipped. Now I don't leave anything in the car, and i take it to a car wash that cleans the inside thoroughly. It's nice to be able to give someone a spur of the moment ride without having to dash out to the car surreptitiously to neaten it up. My car is always company ready, lol. And we keep a dog hair cover on the back seat that I can flip into the back of the car (it's an Outback, so station wagon format) if someone needs to ride in the back seat.

And probably have officially become old because I just got ridiculously excited at this idea.
I also have a membership at a car washing place. It is really easy. I can go up to 10 times a month and vacuum/wash/wax whatever. Totally worth it and it is the catalyst to staying clean and organized.

@lazerus24 and @randomcdn I have those too. Not the exact same ones; the ones I have were free from DH's work logo catalog, lol. But same thing - I have one with supplies in it, one empty for groceries. The supply organizer usually also has a couple reusable shopping bags in it.

@tambcat and others - IMO parents of small children get a pass. I know when my nephews were little, there was just no way to keep everything pin neat. They're just tornadoes, and the time spent taking care of them doesn't leave enough time or energy for cleanup. I say let yourself off the hook until your youngest is like 7 or 8.
I have a system. I start with a category. Like clothes. so I will go around the house and get all the laundry put in, get the clean stuff and put it away. organize my drawers and the linen closet. So basically once this category is complete I have stripped and changed all the bed, the laundry is in and the clean stuff is all put away.
Then I move on to another category and that may be toilets. I clean both toilets and sinks and the shower. Then I move on to dusting and I dust anything that needs dusting in any room
Next is the kitchen. I do appliances first. Clean out the fridge, empty or fill the dishwasher. wash the stove wipe down the microwave. then I clean off the kitchen table and counters. Then I wash the counters.
Last is ALWAYS floors. I start on the top floor and vacuum everything up there. then I wash any floors that don't have carpet on the top floor, then I move down to main floor and vacuum then wash the floors that don't have carpet
I do this pretty much every week. I feel like when I do it by category I get a lot more done. I can't fathom cleaning my bedroom all day then having clothes and towels and linens everywhere.
I also assign categories to the family. My son does trash. he empties all the trash in the house and bring it outside. He is also the duster.
My daughter collects all the dirty laundry and puts it in the laundry baskets. She also sweeps the wood floors.

For me, it's less stuff. Less clothing means I have to keep up on laundry, fewer dishes mean I can't let them pile up, etc. I've also become less sentimental about most things and purge all the time.
I try to never go anywhere with empty hands. Make every trip you go somewhere count. This way you are always putting stuff back where it belongs.
I do this too. There is always stuff waiting to go upstairs every time I go (clean laundry, shoes, sweatshirts, toiletries I just bought, stuff to go to DH's office that came in the mail) and stuff to go down every time (dirty clothes, baby stuff I need for the day, trash, diaper pail bag, ect.)
ETA I wish my husband could do this too. He is not good at multi-tasking
