I don't like it as a first name. But it is my kids last name (I didn't change my last name). To me it is very much a last name and I can't imagine it as a first.
I don't like it, but there are worse names out there.
FWIW, I do not think it is generally a very well-liked name. My BIL wanted to name my nephew Harvey, and every time my SIL brings up this fact, there is a chorus of "Harvey?! Thank God you stopped him!" kind of comments.
This is my big concerns I can guarantee many in our families will think this. Now the question is, do we care? I don't necessarily mind if people don't love our name, but I hate to saddle a kid with a name people HATE.

I get this, but I think people just learn to like it and associate it with the family member that they love. After a while they won't be able to imagine your kid named anything else.

Not a fan, sorry. It reminds me of a movie I had to watch in film class in college--American Splendor. The main character's name is Harvey, and I must have some sort of PTSD from watching that terrible movie that I have a negative connotation associated w/ that name.

I know where you are coming from. FWIW, I was definitely not trying to imply that you should care if people dislike it. I just find it interesting that the reaction is generally a strong negative whenever it is mentioned that it was a possible name choice for my nephew.
I would be torn as well. I don't need other people to love my kids' names, but it would bum me out to think everyone dislikes it.
I wanted DD3 to be Hazel. This was the general reaction of everyone and ultimately I decided not to since literally NO ONE IRL liked the name. I didn't want to saddle her with a name that everyone disliked, it still bums me out

Aw, see, maybe this is a good argument for just using it anyway. I can see both sides.
I had zero hesitation to saddle one of my kids with a name that some of my family members think is too old-fashioned and/or "too foreign," but I love, love, love the name. There were a few others on the list that I could imagine objections to that got eliminated because I really liked them, but didn't love them enough to live with the objections/comments. (Flavia was one of these.)
....I hope people on this board have seen the classic movie "Harvey" w/Jimmy Stewart.
That movie is always my first thought when I hear the name (second thought is Paul Harvey)
It's NMS, but I don't have an issue with it. I guess my main objection personally would be that I can't think of any good nickname for it (if you don't care about nicknames, that's obviously not an issue).
Haven't read the responses, but there's a well like Boston area weatherman named Harvey and so it immediately brings pleasant thoughts to mind. I think it could be really cute but I can see why some people hate it. I like it!

There's a baby Hazel in DS's daycare and she's adorable! I don't know if I loved the name at first (reminds me of Fault in our Stars) but it's grown on me!
