I started feeling off and waddle-y Monday afternoon. around 7:30pm as we were getting DD ready for bed, I had two painful contractions about 15 min apart and knew that this was it. I received a FB message from a fellow mom friend that said "just checking in and thinking of you. I just now had a very strong feeling you are having a boy soon! Good luck!!"
My contractions started getting a little closer together and as I posted, H began running around the house like a nut. We threw together a lunch for daycare in Tuesday and changed the sheets so my mom could sleep over. At midnight I called my mom to come over and then let my midwife know I was heading in despite being 6-8 minutes apart still. I figured she would think it was too early but I had decided I wanted an epi for relief from the back labor and figured t could hurt to go in. We arrived at the hospital around 12:30, checked in, and got set up on the monitor at 12:50.
I was having painful contractions and let the nurse know right away that I wanted an epi. She went through the battery of questions she had to ask me and looped H in as needed while I was crying and trying to breathe through the pain. The nurse waited for my next contraction to finish and checked me - I was at 8cm. She was pretty shocked and let me know that they would try to get the epidural going but I knew it was way too late. All of the sudden the woman in the delivery room next door started screaming that she needed help and to "get this thing out of me!" So my nurse went to aid the other nurses as my midwife who was supposed to be delivering both our babies was not there yet. She told me if I needed I could get up to get more comfortable and I told her I was going to use the bathroom.
I sat, peed, and then my water broke into the toilet. I told H I needed a doctor because I needed to push right away. He ran to get my nurse and as soon as she came in I started pushing - I couldn't wait. The hospital OB woke up, came in and told me to slow down if possible but after 5-10 minutes Grant was out. My midwife came in as he was being born and was able to deliver the placenta for me. Holy rush! I am feeling fantastic and am happy I got the med free birth I thought I might want (lol). I've been up and moving and just feeling really good overall. And with no stitches!
Apparently we know the other woman who was delivering next to me - relative of a friend - her husband missed the birth because he got her settled and ran to drop off their toddler with a family member. She progressed super fast as well and no one saw it coming. The resident did that delivery. So crazy!!
