Also, things I miss: upper body lifting and drinking too much coffee. It's been a week since I lifted, and I'm taking a pretty steady course of ibuprofen to help with the neck pain so my copious coffee consumption has been all but completely curbed.
We found a huge container of pictures from when DH and I were dating in college and over the last 15 years or so. It was so depressing. That was probably the push I needed.
This is my push right now as well. I am looking at pictures of myself and want to cry. Especially when I compare them to just 5 years ago.
I ran 6 miles instead of 8 on Saturday, but I am glad--I got a huge blister. I need to go grab new run shoes this week.
I am finally on MFP and tracking every little thing. I am really unhappy with my body right now, and while I think I am eating well and working out a lot, I think this will be the right push for me.
My plan is 3 days of running this week (total 15 miles), and 3 days of crossfit. Really focusing on smaller portions, at dinner especially.

wait...what? Coffee and ibuprofen are not a good combo?
This is totally new information for me. <--not sarcasm.
So is it my liver or my kidneys that are going to fall out of my body if I continue regularly washing down my motrin with coffee? Or is this a stomach lining issue?
Also - happy to report, my knee feels fine this morning. every so slightly stiff. I think Saturday was just a long day (5 mile run+20 minutes of yoga video+trick or treating) and then sunday was a super lazy day with too much sitting and bad posture.

It's not a prohibited thing. My stomach is pretty sensitive to NSAIDs. I cannot take them unless I've eaten. And if I follow up taking them with coffee, I wind up in lots of pain. So my post-breakfast drink has to be tea.
If it doesn't bother you, it's NBD. Although because NSAIDs are harsh on your stomach, I'd be careful about what you eat if you're on a long-term regimen of them. But the occasional Advil plus coffee is not going to kill you!

Ok, good to know. I have a pretty cast iron stomach. I'm not on an actual ibuprofen regimen - but between creaky joints and tension headaches I take it pretty often. I am on a regular coffee regimen.

Fortunately I'm not totally off coffee. I just can't drink any after my post-breakfast ibuprofen. In fact, my inability to mix the two caused me to put off taking the ibuprofen until the pain was unbearable. I'm currently doing 800mg 2-3 times/day, so it's basically one cup of coffee with breakfast and then just tea at work. I have a lovely selection of fabulous teas. But they are not coffee!
I had a bad sinus headache yesterday after being fed nothing but sugar and white flour by my MIL. Water and caffeine didn't work, but sinus meds and a flatbread sandwich from subway did the trick.
Today in barre class, it came back. I left before we finished up with abs, because the up-and-down motion might have made me hurl.
Came home, used the neti pot, now I'm better.
But I also signed up for a year long commitment at the barre/pilates/yoga studio!
I'm trying to get back into a routine, which has been ruined by work as of late. I did run/walk intervals yesterday, have a barre class today, and I'm planning to try out a kettlebell class on Wednesday.
My tentative plan is barre on Mondays, kettlebell Wednesdays, and lifting on my own on Fridays, plus at least one run during the week. I lifted last week and my hamstrings killed me for three days after doing one-legged deadlifts. Eeeesh. It's been too long.
I also haven't bought soda during my last few grocery store trips. I found out that Costco sells my favorite sparkling water (Perrier lime) in large quantities, and having those around constantly helps a lot.
That sparkling water is so good. I've tried LaCroix, but Wegmans has a cheaper house brand that I buy a lot.
I am all around frustrated. Ballet is pissing me off lately. My teacher is sucking at teaching, both in class and during rehearsals. She tells me "Don't do X" or "Stop doing Y". I DON'T LEARN THAT WAY. Most humans don't, actually. Tell me what you want to see, what I should be doing and I will do it. And then tell me I'm doing a good job every once in awhile instead of having a tone of voice that says "You suck, I don't even know why I'm bothering to put time into teaching you." I just absolutely hate the 9 hours of criticism a week. It's not fun anymore. I will be taking 6 months away from ballet after my recital.
I am super inconsistent with lifting and HIIT outside of ballet classes. I just don't feel like I'm recovering from workouts very well and I know it's diet related. I struggle to eat 2800 calories every day and I struggle to hit my protein macro, mostly because it requires a lot of effort to track everything. I just don't want to put in the effort and time because I'm so tired, but I'm likely so tired because of the workouts I'm doing and lack of proper food.
Once ballet is over I feel like it will be easier because I will have the mental capacity to devote to it. Ugh. Over it.
It is a GLORIOUS day out. Apparently I have tacosforlife to thank for this. I'm going for my run! Up to a 3 mile "easy" baseline now.
The coat I ordered Saturday is supposed to keep me warm down to -40, so of course there is a high of 70 today!
Since I can't lift with upper body, I am skipping the gym tonight and will go on a walk and finish up with some lunges and some step ups in my stairwell. I figure I have to enjoy all the nice outdoor weather I can get since I know my adjustment back to the tundra will be rough this year!
Class 2 of 26 done! I wanted to let you all know how much I appreciated the likes on my initial post about the challenge. I've been feeling a bit isolated so to get those pings of support boosted my spirit. Thank you.
In other news, I've been doing fairly ok in tracking calories in my fitness planner. I need to add in measurements and stuff on my tracking page still.

Now that Halloween is over and I'm not up making stuff until midnight anymore (until December, at least) I'm going back to three body weight workouts a week and NLT two yoga nights/week. I'm also rebooting my MFP since I know the eating is waaaaay off track because pumpkin cinnamon rolls are a thing. I'm also considering taking classes at a studio down the street. I just have to work it out with H.

It's officially day 1 of my dietbet, I went for a 3 mile walk this morning and depending on the weather I may have to do my c25k on the treadmill tomorrow. I'm contemplating buying a new scale, my clothes feel loose, but the scale says I weigh more than ever...... PS. I haven't done weights in weeks so it's not muscle gain. Oh, and I weighed myself yesterday morning and then again last night and I was up 2lbs, is that even possible??

I made pumpkin pie overnight oatmeal and they were lovely. I should have cut down either the yogurt or milk to compensate for hte pumpkin because they were a little watery, but the flavor was great.
I did W7d2 of C25K. I can't believe I ran 2.5 miles straight. It was slower than my 2.25 miles, but it was also warmer. It confirmed that 58* is my ideal temp. I just can't wait to finish and then I will start doing trails or something different than this look around the stadium.
I think I am going to do this plank challenge. ^^
The Anacostia Riverwalk Trail is right there by the stadium and is pretty nice. Never crowded, either!
I need to set a goal to keep myself honest. I think it might help with feeling unfocused. It will also free up some time in managing calories and all macros, plus trying to do weight training and HIIT when I'm already so tired.
For the next 8 weeks I will: Make my protein goal of 130g per day. (1 g per 1 lb of lean body mass)
Complete 20 min of HIIT two days a week. Workout will consist of 4 exercises of my choice (i.e. rope battle, jump rope, kettle bell swings, alligator drag). I will do each exercise until I hit 85% of max heart rate and rest until I hit 65% of max heart rate, and then I will move to the next exercise. I will continue repeating through the 4 exercises until 20 minutes are up.

There was a trainer at the gym this morning, working with an older woman, and he was kind enough to interrupt me right before the last set of my last exercise to tell me what I was doing wrong and how I should be working out. I'll admit that my form wasn't perfect - it was my second triceps exercise and the last thing I was doing so my muscles were tired. It wasn't even a huge thing - he just told me to tuck my elbows in more (triceps cable pushdowns).
I see such awful form in that gym, and I wonder if he would have "helped" one of the big bodybuilder dudebros that use their entire bodies to do one-arm cable rows.

Probably not. I've never seen randos correct dudes before. What an asshole. I hate it when people give unsolicited advice.
