I'm trying to figure out where I want to go in 2016 on vacation. I have two weeks set aside for a vacation and I am completely overwhelmed at the idea of picking places to go!
Tell me your favorite vacations spots so far and any places that are on your to-be-visited list.
Montreal Japan (Osaka and Kyoto) London Paris Puerto Rico (yes I know this is a U.S. territory!)
They were all so different and great. I'm not sure if you're interested in any of those places, but if you are I can share more. I did Montreal solo and I think it's a good location for a solo trip as it's a very easy city to get around and there is a lot to do.
Last year and the year before I lived in South Africa and travelled a lot while there. I ALWAYS recommend South Africa to people (and southern Africa in general) as I think it's often overlooked and people just think Africa = safari when there's so much more to do. I think I went to 10 different countries.
In January for my vacation I plan to go to Lisbon, Portugal and Malaga, Spain. Like you, I was kind of overwhelmed with where to go. My top options were somewhere in Central America, Brazil or Thailand. I don't really know why I chose Lisbon and Malaga, but I've heard great things about both cities, so I just decided that's where I should go.
Overall after I go to Lisbon and Malaga my plan is to explore more of South America and Asia over the next couple of years, then do some of Eastern Africa (hopefully Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda).

I hope to travel a lot more in the future. I've been to a few countries, and they're all my favorites
England (twice... if you do London, try to get tickets for The Ceremony of the Keys, it's free, but you have to request many tickets months in advance, through the mail)
Ireland Scotland Wales (only for a few hours) France (met distant relatives) Germany Austria Switzerland (very expensive, only there a few hours) Poland (inexpensive!) Czech Republic (also inexpensive) The Netherlands Belgium
I want to see Japan, Thailand, Denmark, Iceland, and go back to all the countries I've already been to. I'm saving the states for when I don't want to deal with airlines, etc. When I do that, I want to just drive a truck with camper or camper van all over.
I like to travel for the history, castles, ghost/crime and punishment/Jack the Ripper-type tours, and new food experiences.

The travel wish list -Morocco -Botswana -Antarctica -Australia (specifically Uluru but I will probably end up in Brisbane since I've got a ton of friends there) -India (Kashmir, Punjab and Assam) -Japan -Ukraine -Russia
If I had 2 weeks, I think I'd go to Europe and try to visit a few cities/countries. What is nice about Europe is that things are close together and flights between countries are pretty cheap, so you can get a lot of variety in culture/landscape/food/etc on one trip.
I did a crazy trip where I went to like 8 different cities and while I loved it, that might be a bit much for many people. If you only want to do a couple of places, I loved London and Paris in particular, or you could go to Italy and visit Rome, Venice, and Florence (or somewhere else nearby).
This summer I'm going to Munich, Prague, and London - London sounds random but it's where my BF grew up so we're taking advantage of the airfare we're already paying to fly overseas and doing both areas.
I think if I could go anywhere, my top "wants" are Iceland, Thailand, Ireland, Peru, and China (probably hit a few places). Oh, and Cambodia. But ask me tomorrow and I may have a different list I kind of want to go everywhere.
In the US, I love New Orleans but probably wouldn't spend 2 weeks there. I think you could do a Pacific Northwest trip in 2 weeks though - Seattle, Portland, maybe go out further into either of those states and do some hiking. We did a shorter version of this last summer and also hit up Orcas Island, which was beautiful. Had we had another week we may have done more hiking and/or driven up to Vancouver. I loved Seattle and Portland and found they had more to do than we could get done in a week (total, not in each place) so 2 weeks sounds great.
Yeah, I have a hard time with lists because I usually have a great time with traveling. Also, it feels like the more I travel, the more there is out there to see.
I've been to a lot of Europe and the US. In a couple of weeks, I'm going wine-tasting in Canada. Some of what I will be doing will probably be decided kind of on the fly there. Earlier this year, I went Williamsburg, VA, for a weekend taking in the colonial atmosphere and fine dining. Last week, I got back from visiting some relatives which I kind of combined with seeing Fall foliage. Hmm, I also managed to go to the beach several times but that's just a few hours away from here.
As for cool international places that I've visited (not this year): - I'd say Central Europe. Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Slovakia - That whole region was great. I'd like to go to Munich/Bavaria, Prague, and Budapest/Hungary. I pretty much love all of the Mediterranean as well. Malta is high on my list to want to visit. - I went to Egypt and had a pretty good time but I will say that I did not go alone as a woman and there is a problem with sexual harassment there so I wouldn't recommend it to a solo female traveler. It's a case where a few bad apples are the problem, unfortunately. I experienced a lot of wonderful service but I did get harassed by a scuba instructor. I wouldn't want to be there alone. I would love to go back though. I went with my ex and he was such a complainer and didn't want to do much, but I still managed to have a good time. It would be better with someone who is a good sport about different cultures. - Maine/New England - It is really great. I also really like Portsmouth, NH as a cute town.
Among places that I'd like to go are - hardly a comprehensive list: -Japan, need the $$$ for that but would love to go. -NOLA - Glaringly haven't been. -Iceland - This is not too hard from where I live and my boyfriend has been frequently. He loves going there, to Scandinavia and to Russia. (He studied Russian throughout school and into college). -Alaska -Chile -Caribbean (I actually haven't done this and I've never been on a US-style cruise).
Every time I get the chance I go to Italy - I live in Belgium.
I just made the reservation to rent a house in Sicily early May. My first solo trip for 10 days! One friend will join me for a couple of days and I am hoping another friend will stay for 3 days as well. I plan to rent a car and see as much as possible. The entire island is a treasure!
Italians are extremely friendly, the hotels are cheaper than in other places in Europe, the food and wine are to die for and there is so much to see!
