I'm in search of black boots and after 3 flops, I'm feeling desperate, lol.
I like that the Born has a bit of a heel, and the strappy thing, but the back is kinda weird. The Penny is fine, basic black boot, but I sorta feel like its boring, lol.
What does the back of the black born ones look like?
Well its hard to tell from the pic online cuz they don't show the back of the black, but the tan ones are sort of two-tones if you look at the pics in the link.

I was thinking if they are black on black I would do them. Or you can save $$ and go with the penny and buy a new top to go with it
I like the penny boot best. I think you will get a lot of use out of either bc they are plainer. You won't have to worry about them going out of style. You will make the plainer boots look good with your snazzy outfits.
I love the look of the Penny boot and actually own them in another color. I agree with the back of the Born boot but looking at the Born website there are pics of all angles of the black and they're solid black. The Borns are great looking too.
In terms of comfort I own a different style of Born boot as well and the comfort factor is no comparison, the Born boots are hands down more comfortable and I could wear them all day and not even notice. The Penny isn't as comfortable by far but I can still wear them all day. The Nordstrom associate I was working with when I bought the Frye Melissas this year told me that the Penny is about a two season boot if you wear them with any regularity. So if you're looking for longevity, they might not be the best pick.
They booth look fantastic though, so I would say, if comfort and longevity are high on your list, you might go with the Born. If you're not wearing them a ton and not worried about that, the Penny is a great boot!
Let's be honest though V, they'll both be gorgeous on you!

This sold me. Thanks for your thorough commentary, lol. I am pretty hard on my shoes, and wear my flat boots pretty often. The last pair I bought were pretty shot after even one season, but I wore them longer than I should and can't get away with it anymore.
I'm gonna try the Born for now, and it looks like the Penny can be a solid option if the Born ones don't work out.

Thanks everyone!
I'm so glad I could help!! We're gonna need to see them when they come you know!
majick143 had a much better description but I think you walk a lot, right? That put my vote in the Born pair. Can't wait until you get them to hear what you think!
I just bought the Born ones- haven't had a chance to wear them yet but I also tried the Penny boots. I don't think you can go wrong with either, but for me the Borns were far more comfortable in the store, so I support your choice to try those !
I have the Penny boots in black and they're fine, but they definitely aren't my most comfortable boot. I can wear them all day, but they almost seem really narrow and I don't have wide feet. I was sort of in a pinch last year when the zipper crapped out on my other pair of black boots and I needed some new ones stat! I ordered a few to try on and the Penny's beat out the other contenders.

Lurker here... I have the born ones in grey. I love them! I think they look even nicer in person and they're really comfortable. I like the other ones too though.
