I am planning on getting one. Mine will be 24 months apart. I like baby wearing but I have neck/shoulder problems and DS was a big baby (17lbs at 3 months, now 29lbs at 17 months ) so I can't do it for long periods of time. DS likes the stroller and we go walking every day in the summer and we walk to the park and the lake which I would not feel comfortable with DS walking to because they are pretty busy streets. I just foresee lots of situations where I would want them both contained. Maybe things will change in the next 6 months but as of right now, DS won't walk when we are out. I will probably be alone with The kids a lot.
I read the rest of this thread & feel like I should add that I walk 3 miles a day with the kids. I tried pushing ds2 and wearing ds1 but ds2 isn't a fan of the stroller.
Obviously I had one since I had twins but even if it had been one I would have gotten a double. The kids are 21 mos apart. We like to take long walks (several miles) as a family regularly and do a lot of zoo trips or events that were too much for J to walk that much all day. I could have worn the baby but we like to have options. Often when we are gone all day we alternate between the stroller and wearing especially when it's hot as neither of us want a baby strapped to us all day in the heat.
oh, also I'm not a huge fan of baby wearing, which is another reason I wanted a double stroller option. Especially when it was hot out, I couldn't stand the baby welded to my body with sweat if we were outside for prolonged periods
I love baby wearing but when it's hot I can't stand having them strapped to me for prolonged periods of time. It's miserable.
6 weeks in and I'm so glad we decided to get a double. Maybe by the spring/summer DD can be trusted to walk next to the stroller on her own without running off, but it's nice to have a way of transporting both kids. We got the City Select and are using it with an adaptor for DS's car seat, which will switch to an actual seat once he's able to sit up.
Mine are 21m apart. I find stroller use is a pretty individual thing. We got a cheap Graco double. We used it mostly for neighborhood walks, but we walk every evening and it got regular use for that purpose for a good 18 months. Beyond walks I think we used it 2 or 3 times, only when J was super small and A still needed to be contained. Otherwise we used a single & carrier until A started walking everywhere.
I had a double jogging stroller that I used for running, walking, going to the park, outdoor festivals, etc. When we were indoors I put the baby in a carrier and used a single umbrella stroller. DD1 didn't walk until 20 months, so she needed a stroller for a long time.
My kids are 2yr3m apart and I got a double. I used the double all the time for the first year. It was great to be able to strap them both in while I tried to run errands with them and we go for a lot of a walks and DS1 always got tired so he liked having a place to sit. We got the Britax B-Ready because I liked the idea of the lower seat.
Mine were 24 months apart. I had one and used it for the first year or so. Totally worth it, IMO. I liked to take long walks, go to the mall, zoo, etc. and did not want to be wrangling a 2 year old at the same time.

Mine are 2 yr 4 mos apart and we never had a double (and I had a bit of a stroller "problem" with DS1). Neither kid liked the stroller much after 2 yrs.- especially DS2. I guess it might have been nice to have a sit and stand for a few months but we were fine without it.

We actually still use ours quite a bit since I walk the kids to school a lot. DS1 is 5 and walks and DS2 is 3 and rides in the front of the double stroller and DD is in her car seat in the back of the stroller. Even though ds2 is 3 he walks kinda slow and we usually need to get to school quickly. And it's about 1.5 miles of walking, so he'd get too tired.

I find it difficult to go out by myself with both kids if I have a task to accomplish. I also can't take the kids for a walk if I'm alone with them. I am currently looking for a double stroller of some sort (sit and stand would probably be good) despite making do for the past year without one. Even if it proves useful only half a dozen times it will be worth it.
I think it's partly the kids and partly lifestyle stuff. Our kid are 3 years apart and then 2.5 years apart. We have a city mini double that we loved. It's never been used daily or even weekly. But for vacations like Disney and a few other trips it was worth it's weight in gold. I used it a little for longer neighborhood walks, and things like the zoo. I also used it last year for the bus stop when it was freezing or raining to make my life easier. We do baby wear a ton, but I don't regret the purchase for a second.

We have a 2.5 year age gap. I mostly just use the single and have DS walk. But we also have a sit and stand for bigger days like the zoo or disneyland.

We have an old heavy one my coworker handed down that we use for walks and a maclaran twin triumph for travel. I thought I'd always wear the baby and use the UBV for the big, but it's really easier to do long walks with a stroller and the umbrella was a must have for our recent air travel. (We gate checked it)
Not a need. I wouldn't shell out $$$ for one, but the $10 one I bought at a garage sale has come in handy a few times. But I could have just as easily used the single stroller and worn the smaller kid.

I think it depends on your lifestyle. My boys are 25 months apart, and we have the city mini double. I LOVE it, and we still use it frequently at three and one. I also have the UPPABaby with the kick board and G-Luxe. We walk a lot and several miles. I can do most of my errands just walking. A lot of people in my area have one, but I live in a walking community. If I didn't walk a lot, I think I could get away without one.
Mine are 21 months apart - at 1 and 3 yo we still use our double stroller frequently. Dd gets jealous when we have the single stroller for ds and insists on getting in it so we pretty much always take the double stroller
