We have gray walls, gray cabinets, and gray tile. We even have gray backsplash in the kitchen.
We have dark brown floors, which as @tambcat pointed out, probably works ok for us because we don't have pets.
The only color in the house is the one bright green wall.
Color via floors and walls is overrated!
We have all neutral colors, too. But not all THE SAME color. I think if there's a really dark gray floor and lighter gray cabinets, or the other way around, it would be pretty.
Like this
SO PRETTY. It's all gray but it's not all THE SAME gray.
But this is a lot of different colors! It's pretty! Also I think I don't know what colors are, because your floor looks tan to me.
It's gray! Arguably a warmer gray? It's definitely gray, though, as are my walls, which are lighter gray, not white.
Even though I'm apparently color blind, I hope it still means something that I like it. We're not all grays, but we have medium wood floors, very dark cabinets, whitish granite, and gray walls. The only real color I have is a teapot that I leave on the stove. I pretend that I put it there to make my kitchen look fun, but really I just hate storing it.
Where did anyone insist on a pop of color? I'm just stating my preference for a floor that isn't a similar shade to the cabinets, carpet and tile. I feel like previous conversations are getting lumped into this thread or something. (huh)
Everybody is talking about color and contrast and starkness and bleakness.
No?
I may have come across wrong, but what I meant was just that all the grays seemed too close to the same color. I'm not a big fan of bright colors on walls, cabinets, or floors. In our old house, DH wanted to paint the office red and it was the worst mistake I've ever made in my life. Sometimes I'll do a pale yellow for bedroom walls or something, but I'm not very adventurous otherwise.
My best friend, in her old house, had accent walls in every room, bright colors, and a stencil in half of the rooms. I hated it. It was awful.
To me the same shade of gray all over would tend to feel stark/bleak.
Contrast =/= pop of color. Your room has contrast miso.
Gray wood floors paired with a similar shade of gray wood cabinets would provide little to no contrast. Gray wood cabinets paired with gray tile? Contrast in texture even if not in color.
I'm feeling very mofongo-like and #overinvested in this now, lol.
We have dark hardwoods and I love the look but they're SO high maintenance. If I could go back in time I would have chosen either light gray stain or one a few shades lighter than the dark stain we have now.
I like the look of the grayish/whitewashed floors at the moment, but they are very trendy and will look dated quickly. That finish is already on the way out in my line of work (design related), which generally means it's got another few years out in public before it's on its way out. I'd choose one of the lighter wood tones for sure; I think it will make that cabinet finish have more longevity.
