Well. Local radio station shared this this morning on their facebook page, 54 "unique" comments so far. All but ONE. ONE! Of the comments thinks we need to lighten up, bc cmon it is funny. 90+% of those comments were made by women.
We are well and truly fucked, ladies. I feel like throwing in the samn towel.
Also, between my son, my SO, and my XH, every male in my life runs his goddamn gums all day long. I have literally no quiet. Your premise is false, idiots.
I think I was PMSing last week, because my husband and I had just gone to a Downton Abbey event (got to see the season premiere!) and went to a brew pub afterwards and he kept blabbering about stuff I didn't care about, like 1930s sci-fi movies. I REALLY wanted to tell him, "I just need you to shut your mouth for 5 minutes," but it would have hurt his feelings. So I moved into "uh-huh" with a glazed over look mode.

This is where the problem lies. ALL sorts of people think this is just a funny "joke" and think we are just being too PC. They do not see the misogyny or sexism, it's just "cute and funny" (neither of which it actually is, offensiveness aside).
How do we overcome sexism if our culture does not see daily acts of sexism like this as offensive?

Our little talks non-stop, and I mean non-stop, if she's awake, she's talking. DH is like "where does she get that from?" You, honey, she gets that from you. Take a breather once in a while. Sometimes I just walk away to see if he'll follow me and keep talking because damnit, I have shit to do.
There's a whole conversation on the subject on it with Connie Schultz on Facebook. (Pulitzer Prize winning journalist and also Sherrod Brown's wife - and Frankin the Dog's human when Sherrod isn't around.) There are some very vocal people on her page. She's one of my favorite reads pretty much anywhere.
The second picture the mom made her Facebook profile picture. She's a coach for a basketball team or some such. "The whole town is supporting her." "It's funny!" blah blah blah. Apparently the photographer is young so maybe that was her excuse, until she started defending the photo. I think the page was temporarily shut down because of so many people commenting and discussing the picture. A short period of "peace and quiet." How ironic. Maybe she'd like to take a picture of a computer with a duct taped screen and tied keyboard.
The discussions on Connie's page are pretty amazing, this being one of them. Running the gamut from men saying "calm down" to women chastising them for being paternalistic, and correlating the photo to domestic violence, misogyny, and patriarchal suppression.
