@lemonlover No school house for any of the people who've started in the past few months where my H is now or for any of our friends who've gotten out and started at other facilities. He's lovin' the job on the civilian side too!
Good lord, girl. what board do you chill on now?
My friend was extended in Korea until August! He has to get his physical and medical done by Sept 12th? He hopes to be working by Nov of this year. He is dual facility so I'm hoping he gets where ever he wants! He loves ATC.
Are you all happy with your location?
I lurk on ML and MM Moms constantly but I forgot my password for awhile so I haven't bothered to log in and post.
Have him call and set up as much as he can w/ his appointments b/c that's the part that seems to move sloooooooooowly.
We like the area better than our last base but the end goal is to be closer to family in a few years for the kids' sake. Transferring looks promising once he gets a few years in.
Hi LL, I remember you! I was Gumby22c over on TN. I shortened it here to my current name (or if your on the app then I still show up as that name).
My H is AD AF and we are living in Germany at the moment. We just PCSed here in Sept and are still getting used to the time difference from our family/friends in the states. We just had our first baby, he's 7 weeks today. We also have 4 fur babies, 3 dogs and a cat. I'm a SAHM and just working on putting myself out there and making friends here. I tend to keep to myself and make friends at my job or through my H at previous bases. So I need to change that so I don't alienate myself for the next 3 years. So far we love living here though!
I realize this is an OLD post; are you still living in Germany? I'm applying for a job that would put me in Landstuhl. I'm dying to know all the things right now!! Do you love Germany? What is the hardest thing about being there (aside from not seeing fam and friends)?

We are still here! Actually not too far from Landstuhl, but since I don't live down there I can't answer much about that area. It's right next to Ramstein which is huge though.
We LOVE living here! Like I'm legit sad we only have a year left at the moment. Since you'll be in our vicinity of the country, I can tell you that you'll be 2-3 hours from many countries. I love that we can take day trips to Luxembourg, France, Belgium, and Netherlands because they are so close. Take every advantage of traveling here. Budget airlines make it easy to catch a flight somewhere fun for a steal and the train system is wide spread and pretty easy to navigate. We've done so much traveling since being here simply because it's cheap and easy and we want to see all the things!
Hardest thing would probably be the language barrier (but I love it so much here I don't really mind), but I knew zero German before moving here. I still feel like I know hardly any, especially when talking to Germans because I get overwhelmed, but I can read it ok enough to get the gist of things half the time. It seems to be about half the locals in our area know a bit of English, so many times between my horrible German and their English we can communicate ok.
It's been such an awesome opportunity to be overseas. Take every opportunity to enjoy the local area. Check the festivals, Europeans in general know how to put on a good festival! I had my son in a German hospital, since our base only has a basic clinic. I have nothing to compare it to since he's my only child, but it was a great experience. We live off base in a tiny village. Not being stuck in the "bubble" of an American base is nice because we've gotten to know our German neighbours and experience the little things, like our little bakery and pizza place.
It is what you make of it. I know there are people at our base who hate it, but alot of times it comes down to they feel alone and don't really get involved. Being away so far from family is hard, but we made a few close friends here and I know if I needed anything they'd be there in an instant and vice versa. So I don't feel alone here.
Feel free to ask anything else good luck on the job front!

I am also in Germany and right near Landstuhl if you have any questions! I just had my son at LRMC last month. Germany is amazing and the "hardest"'things about being here are small things like they don't have pay at the pump gas and everything is closed on Sundays. It's an amazing place and I'd never leave if I had the choice.
@g22 and ohyouknow, I'm moving to Germany!!! I report to NC in Dec to in-process and do some training, then I head over. I'm very excited, but I'm already feeling a little anxious at not being able to pre-plan very much. My preference is to live off post; and I've been trolling AHRN for rentals (just in case). G22, I'll be in your vicinity, so I might be asking you lots of question since I actually have orders in hand. I am planning all the trips around Europe (in my mind). I drove to know what your favorite places to visit are; especially places that 2 elementary kids would enjoy.

How exciting! Good luck with moving and getting settled here!
We love exploring our local area and finding easy day trips <2 hours away. We have a 2 year old, so I'm probably not much help with interests for older kids.
Favorite big trips we've taken: Rome and Venice (separate trips), Salzburg, Amsterdam/Keukenhof Tulip fields, Garmisch, Berlin, 2 week road trip around the UK
On our to do list still: Iceland, Warsaw, Prague, Greece, Scandinavian countries/cruise
