We just booked our next Disney vacation at Yatch Club in May. We picked it because the pool looks amazing and both of our kids love the pool. If you have stayed there what did you think? Our kids are 3 and 6 so I am also considering the Polynesian ($70 more per night) or Bay Lake Towers (could be more or less depending on what's available) for the location. Which would you pick?
Lurking because we have the option of the yacht club or the boardwalk for a work trip with h and I want to see thouhhts on the yacht club
Regardless of which hotel you stay at, my DH and I had an amazing meal at Yachtsman Steakhouse. We both agreed it was one of the best steaks we have ever had. It's too quiet for my kids so we won't be going back this trip but if you are taking a kids free vacation I recommend it!
This is more a location review than a hotel review as I stayed recently at the Boardwalk.
The yacht club pool is freaking amazing (at least from looking at it) so if your kids will be pumped by a cool pool I would definitely consider the yacht club.
The location is pretty awesome for dining options since it is a really easy walk to Epcot. We walked to Hollywood studios a few times too since the boat takes a long time and I had a 13 month old who would sleep if I walked....it is a pretty long walk though especially when it is HOT!
It is pretty easy to catch a bus to the other parks. They have signs now the tell you the estimated arrival time of the busses and I don't think we had to wait much more than 15 minutes to get a bus. It usually arrived faster.
The other good thing is when you are leaving the parks if a bus for another nearby resort is already there (there is a boardwalk bus and a yacht/beach club bus) we would get on it and just walk as all the resorts are close.
If you feel you will be spending the majority of your time at magic Kingdom, however, and it doesn't matter to you if you eat a different restaurant each night, Polynesian or Bay Lake towers would be better.
I stayed at the Polynesian pre kids and found it very easy to get to the magic Kingdom and epcot. Dining options on site weren't that great but you can easily get to the contemporary, epcot, and magic Kingdom to eat.
We stayed at the Beach Club in Nov which connects with the Yacht Club and they share the same pool. It is amazing. It's also an easy walk to Epcot and not a bad walk to Hollywood Studios (or you can take a boat). We ate at the Yachtsman Steakhouse. I thought it was good bit overpriced. However, that goes for many restaurants in DW. I would stay there again for sure.

Yachtsman Steakhouse is so good!! It was easily our favorite meal last trip. My 5 year old loved it, too. She ate all of her steak, half of mine, and some of my husbands.
Next time we go we are staying there. Loved the vibe.
I've stayed at both Yacht and Beach Club. Really they're the same resort in that they share all the same amenities (pool, gym, etc). The Yacht Club has more subdued, adult oriented theming. The buses generally picked up and dropped off at YC first, which is a plus. The YC has a longer walk to the Beach Club Marketplace if you like the traditional Disney quick service breakfast. I also liked being so close to Epcot and I found the bus service everywhere else fairly quick. I highly recommend the lounge Ale and Compass that is attached to the Steakhouse for a quick cocktail and appetizer. It was great and very low-key.
If I were traveling with small children though I would probably choose the Poly though. For a work trip definitely Yacht and Beach over the BW. You have to go outside to get food at the Boardwalk, which I find annoying, but I've never stayed there.
I have not stayed at the yacht but we've stayed at the beach club several times with and without kids - we loooove Epcot, so the location is just awesome. The pool is also so fantastic, we've done a full day just at the pool and lunch at beaches & cream.
We rent dvc points because it's way cheaper, so my cost was probably not as high, so it was definitely worth it.
A monorail resort stay is next on my list because I think it would be awesome with kids.
What about a split stay? I know some people aren't fans but we don't find it to be a big deal.

I was considering a split stay. I think my DH is going to look at me like I gave 2 heads because he is only going to see the extra work involved but I think it would be nice to experience both resorts.

I don't know about the yacht club, but we stayed at the Polynesian in September. It was awesome, the pool area is newly renovated and perfect for toddler -elementary age kids. They had little slides, fountains and wading pools besides the regular pool with adult size slides

Honestly a split stay between Beach club & Poly is probably my perfect vacation. But I'd want at least 3 nights in each to feel settled.
Last time we did 2-5-2, Beach club/Swan (had points)/Animal Kingdom. 3 resorts was probably overkill but honestly, not the big of a deal. We just planned no early park that morning, packed up most of the stuff the night before and then the resort bell services took care of the rest. The one thing that made it easy is we had 2 of those huge orange gate check stoller/car seat bags. We had used them for the strollers while flying but they were awesome for switching resorts b/c we didn't have to pack up carefully, anything could just get chucked in those or the suitcases. Packing for a resort change is not the same as packing for flying or whatever. That said, I know it's not for everyone and people probably think we are crazy.
We did a split stay earlier thIs year and I don't think we will do it again. It was "easy" but also a pain in a number of ways. We did a 3/6 night split.
Given their ages I'd do BLT, poly, beach/yacht club in that order. The YC pool area is awesome but it's so big. The CR pool IMO is boring (but the pool is large and nice) but my 4.5yo loooooves it and its water slide. There's an additional pool at BLT too.
The walking path to MK simply cannot be beat with those ages.
We will be staying at the YC/BC in a few years when they're older.
What do your park days look like? If you spending most of your time at MK I would do BLT or the Poly.
We are planning on doing a day each at Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Epcot and one of the water parks plus 2 days just hanging out at the hotel pool, doing character meals, renting one of those small boats etc. We went to Disney in August with my parents and spent 7 days in a row at the parks so we want to take it easy this time.

If you want to take it easy and hang at the resort, I would do YC. It would be so easy to head into Epcot in the evenings or take the boat to the DHS entrance to watch fireworks from outside the park for something to do also.
I liked cape may cafe for a character meal. It was less crazy than like, chef mickeys. And the food was really good!
We actually booked Cape May for breakfast last night so that is good to hear!
I stayed there in junior high it was awesome. We loved the pool arcade close to the boardwalk that our parents let us go over there by ourselves. The ice cream parlor was really cute.

100% agree with this - the meal my H and I had at Yachtsman Steakhouse was so good, we still talk about it years later. We were bummed the timing didn't work out for us to go back this fall when we took a return Disney trip. Definitely recommended!

We stayed at Beach Club and loved the ability to just walk into Epcot for dinner and to take the boat to DHS. We didn't stop in at YC but they are sister properties.
