I place the cone on the mug, put the filter in the cone, put a scoop of freshly ground Kona coffee into the cone, then pour hot water into the filter up to the top. I've done it this way for years since I don't want to make a full pot of coffee every day. Not interested in getting a Keurig machine : )
I can never get mine right when I make it like this. What size are your grounds?
At home I put coffee, syrup, and heavy whipping cream. If I'm going out and want to grab a coffee, I'll throw my syrup and heavy whipping cream in a to go cup then fill it.

Sometimes I grind the beans at home. I haven't measured the size but I get it pretty fine. Or, if I think to request it when I buy a bag of beans, I have them grind the beans to "cone" consistency

I currently hate my starbucks machine (their version of a keurig). This could be an option!
