Poly no question. We stayed in August. They have completely redone the pool area and it is perfect for that age group. Slash area, small slides ect. It has a much more vacation feel.
The Contemporary felt very dated. We went there for Chef Mickeys. It was full of people there for conferences.

We stayed at CR for 5 nights last September. Contemporary does not really have a family feel, it was mostly conference attendees, couples & older kids. Most of the activities (outdoor movies, etc) seemed geared towards teens.
We went over to Poly for dinner one night, the atmostsphere was completely different. Kids running around playing on the lawn, really cool pool, etc.
For Dec I would choose contemp. Love being able to walk to and from the MK. If you are in the tower all rooms have a balcony which is not true of the poly. Plus there is a direct boat to the Wilderness Lodge which has great Christmas decorations. The Whispering Canyon is a great place to eat with kids. Either is a great choice though.
I love the poly so that would get my vote. What part of the contemporary is the room in? If it's main hotel then that's great but if it's a garden building I would do Poly hands down.
The garden wings at the contemporary don't really do it for me as much as the BLT or main building. $600 is pretty significant, though. I'd be torn, too. I'm a huge fan of renting DVC points, that's the only way we do it, so that's something to look into, too. I find it's always cheaper than any other deal on DVC/deluxe and the accommodations are better.
So I have put in a request to rent dVC points from two companies but nothing has come through for my dates
Frankly I would rather not only have 1 real bed so renting DVC while it may save us some money , isn't ideal. Just for price comparison - my CR quote is 275 a night. Renting points would be $233. For the poly its $348 a night vs $269 renting. Not quite as big of a savings as I thought.
I didn't have the agency quote out grand Floridian. Figured it would be super pricey. And might be excluded from the deal.

Oh bummer, we've always had great luck w/ dvc request/davids. I think that's a decent amount when it's over a week, but everyone's budget is different. At some resorts the DVC studio also means a definite balcony or better location, etc. but that's resort specific. I will also say, we make the kids sleep in the sofa bed and it's always been fine - the benefit to us is we have more room during the day when the bed is put away. But again, everyone is different.
I think I'd probably stay at the CR since swimming is more of a gamble.
If you're doing DVC that's Bay Lake Tower and not the contemporary. It's a completely separate building. FWIW we loved BLT, but I'm trying to convince the parents to do poly in 2017.
Yes one of the travel agency was offering an agency exclusive discount. So the quotes I had included that discount. But I think we are going to go DVC poly. Should be fun !

I think we got a quote from the same agency. They had an amazing price for the contemporary but we still ended up choosing the Polynesian. I've always wanted to stay there and the new splash pad looks great. I may need to look into a dvc rental. Can you still make your FP+ reservations 60 days in advance?

We rented DVC points and we were able to book FP 60 days in advance.
OP enjoy your stay at the poly. I want to stay there someday.
