My favorite gift is this piece of metal wall art that has fish swimming through grass. It was made by an artist who lost their shop in Katrina. When I first opened it my face was something like ^o) , but it goes perfectly in my "palm tree" bathroom (which was on the registry).
I love it, because its something that I would have never picked for myself.
When my sister-in-law got married, we gave them a "Box of Firsts" - a nice wicker basket with wrapped presents for 10 or so "firsts", like "First House", "First Anniversary", First Date Night In, First Date Night Out, First New Years Eve, etc. So like, first house was a throw blanket and a wooden initial of their last name, first anniversary was a pair of wine glasses and a bottle of wine from their wedding year, first night out was a necklace for her and cufflinks for him, first date night in was some movie popcorn, appetizer plates, and a gc to Blockbuster (it was a long time ago lol). It was pretty inexpensive, as we were fairly poor at the time, so a lot of it came from Marshall's/TJMaxx. They actually told us they were pregnant by bringing the unwrapped "First baby" book over to us to write something in.
I went off-registry for my sister and brother's weddings, and I was a student for both so I didn't have much to spend. But what I got them was specific to their tastes and would almost certainly not apply for you. Just think about what your sister likes and go with that. My sister went off registry for my wedding and picked out a great set of Kate Spade candy/small serving bowls that I didn't even know existed, but are 100% in line with my tastes. I use them all the time.
That wedding shadow box thing, though? Lame. Sorry. We got a couple things like that and they're still sitting in a box in our basement. Unless that's something you know your sister will love, avoid it.
You can make a nice gift out of a "boring" registry item by adding more stuff to it. Towels = add bathy / shower products. Kitchen stuff = compile your mom and grandma's recipes into a little book. Toaster = ok that one's a little more difficult, lol. But I would 100% much rather receive a toaster than a wedding scrapbook / shadowbox thing.

The only things we are keeping on our big move from our wedding is a blanket my mom crocheted for us (mostly because she made it) and a large framed original photo from one of dh uncles of a creek near dhs boyhood home. Dh loves it, it's not really our style, but it's sentimental.

This is adorable. What a creative and fun idea!
I was actually really hoping they'd do the same for us when we got married, but no. I've always loved those "date in a box" type gifts for both giving and getting, and it was a lot of fun to put together.
We received a personalized door knocker. Think sterling silver with an engraving. "The Smiths Est 2007". We knew we would be buying a house soon so I LOVED it. This might sound boring for some but it was by far our favorite.

So I could only read so far in this thread but please no frames. And passport covers are a pita. If you must be creative how about wine? I gave dh a bottle of really nice champagne with a tag that said "for our 1st anniversary" and wine for years 5, 10, and 25. I chose wines that would mature at the appropriate time.
