@kirkette, Thank you for this. And not just the link providing a way for us to make a meaningful monetary contribution (donated this morning), but thank you for taking the time to and having the patience while many of us struggle to recognize our inherent privilege. I don't post a ton, but you truly have opened my eyes.

This is an amazing post. And, I love the information. Supporting these types of things always weighs on me, but I tend to never know how to find the information. What is really cool is I have a friend that is a teacher at one of the high schools in the list and the stories he has about some of the students are heartbreaking but others are truly heartwarming. I will definitely be looking at how much we can contribute.
I've stayed out of all the craziness over the past week or so, but I want to say that I really admire you to be able to come above all the crap that's been dealt and still be the amazing person that I've seen anytime I've read your posts. We definitely need more people like you out there!

@kirkette is there a similar org. in Houston that you know of? Or how would I find one? I'd love to see if there are volunteer opportunities local to me. Plus DH is a PE teacher in a Title 1 school, so this is close to us and would be a natural thing for our family to do together.
I got a little gleeful when entering Young Philanthropists. Just perfection.
And I'm happy to now have a different perspective on philanthropy, what it means to be a philanthropist, and ways I can strive to become a better person. Thank you for setting such a great example. True class act. I'm sorry for the pain I caused/contributed to on the path to this realization.

Can you PM me the name of the school, and your husband's name? This way, if there's an opportunity to get Houston going in the next few year, we already have a starting place. Thank you so much.

Thanks for posting this Kirkette. I have been away all weekend and have such a heavy heart reading about what happened to smo. I am happy to give to do something positive.
Never knew of this organization - thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I don't have words to express my feelings regarding all the posts this past week or so...and I don't understand some of the history/back stories. But I have to say this post is awesome and a true class act. I have come away from all of this trying to be more mindful of my words and actions/inaction...thank you all for that.
This brought tears to my eyes. Happy to give and be part of something positive out of all of this. Much love to you, @kirkette. You're a wonderful person inside and out.

Well before the videos I was all, "Sure, I can maybe donate," but now I see that you got to meet Matthew McConaughey, I'm definitely donating b/c maybe you can meet him again and send us pics.
ETA: This was a joke - b/c CEP has some die hard McConaughey fans.
I've heard of this organization before, but wasn't familiar with they're work. Thanks for sharing. I'm excited to contribute. It was also cool to see you on the video.
